That...seems like a really bad precedent to set. As one of them said in the article, predicting earthquakes is a crapshoot. It's not like they intentionally covered up a potential quake coming.
Yeah, it seems like a terrible precedent. I remember a lot of upset about it at the time they were charged. Not sure what the final outcome was (that link was what I found after a quick search). I think maybe they were eventually acquitted on appeal?

With names "Mel" and "Sue" one finds "The Great British Bake Off" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_British_Bake_Off
that clearly was a game show (unlike that "Supernanny" -- un-airable language in "how to raise kids" program seems unlikely).
