Yeah I did a dive 2 weeks ago with a dive master and he had a student who was doing his 4th dive. This student simply was not paying attention to shit. Like before the dive when we were getting briefed this kid just wasn't caring. He was also putting his gear together wrong and the instructor had to tell him multiple times how to do it.

Then underwater this kid was just all over the place. Like flipping around, not following instructions from the dive master again, and I even saw him pop his regulator out of his mouth on accident once. Not sure how many times it happened but I just saw it once. It was just like he didn't realize how serious it is as far as being careful and what can go wrong. He was probably 16-17 and was a local to St. Thomas.

Crazy.... I'm no longer certified but when I was training for it years ago if you screwed around in class or appeared to not be taking it seriously in any way you were asked to leave. (instructor was a retired Navy SEAL)

Folks don't seen to understand there's a huge difference between having problems 10 feet down vs 60 feet. You need to know how to react instinctively at ANY time so that you stay alive when bad stuff happens.

Just curious. Did you vet that claim?

Don't blame me for youtuber's choice of titles!

Slightly surprised Harrison Ford hasn't recreated that scene in his own private flying activities.

Just because its not your fault does NOT mean I can't blame you!

:p ;)

Your certification should be for life.

As I recall it expired after 10 years or something like that? Pretty sure all it did legally was allow getting tanks refilled at "certified" dive shops anyway. (still a VERY good idea to take one!)

Its been a LONG time!

If you got PADI certified it's for life.

My brother got his in 92 and his last dive was 93.

We're going to Aruba in 2 weeks and few months ago he looked up all his stuff and got a new C-card now so he is going to dive when we go.

I traced him down to his DNA !!!! :p

Not like I had any reason to question him lol .... I was taking a cheapo certification test at the local YMCA and just wanted to gtfo.

Ah yes, budget curriculum at the Y. Sounds appropriate for someone with millions of dollars in training and years of experience in special operations warfare to be moonlighting, with kids who just want to gtfo.

I hate to tell you Captante, but odds are very good your instructor was full of shit. That's called Stolen Valor. Or maybe I'm wrong, if you know his name roll it past Don Shipley if you're curious. https://videos.extremesealexperience.com/Fake-Navy-Seal-Verification
