I just heard from an acquaintance that her hubby is down with the Rona. Fortunately, they were both vaccinated so his case is uncomfortable but not life threatening. Yep, they went to Sturgis as vendors and met “everybody “.

Substantially MORE then one kind lol plus most of them look a lot like the edible kinds and are NOT a handy neon-pink!

DON'T pick OR HANDLE WITHOUT GLOVES/MASK wild mushrooms (or eat them obviously!) unless you REALLY know what your doing. (even "experts" get it wrong sometimes and poison themselves/others)

😳

Death Cap (Amanita phalloides) wild mushrooms for example.... similar in appearance to several edible types and a frequent cause of poisoning.

Yep. I usually tell people to make their own cheat sheet, then laminate it. Going along with an old pro also recommended. Most species have at least a few regional subspecies so slight variation, local experience is a big help. If you can't be 100% def leave'em. There are actually far more edible mushrooms out there than dangerous ones IIRC, but getting unlucky with these guys is to be avoided for sure. That cheat sheet should have a NOPE section, and first on that list should be Jack o Lantern IMO. Many edible varieties are "technically" edible, as in no real dangerous toxins, but they will not agree with everyone's stomach. It's why I leave honey mushrooms alone. Hard to get Lion's mane wrong, thankfully. Morels are the quarry of choice, easy to confirm from false ones (just check to see if hollow). Caution is warranted, always, it's no different than stalking the woods with a loaded gun in hand or plying slippery rocks and dodging bears and moose for a decent fishing hole.
