I think it was destined to end that way no matter what. If it wasn't sand it would have been a pebble or a wind gust or an oncoming car. And if it didn't happen this time it would have been the next or the time after that. Some people don't learn until they wake up in a hospital.

My brother and I purchased 2 ducklings from a feed store when we were teenagers. They imprinted immediately. We took them out of the cardboard carrier at home and they started trying to scramble into our laps and sleep. They followed us everywhere. We went outside and walked a mile or so around the block and they followed the whole way.

Ducks poop whenever they want to. What does he do about that?
