My cat acts the same way with that stupid game. What you don't see is the annoyance when the cat continues to randomly attack the tablet during the rest of the week when it's sitting there thinking the mouse will show up.

Playing a pinball game on my desktop used to send the cat crazy. It doesn't have to look like a mouse - any small moderately-fast-moving object seems to do the trick. Wildlife documentaries on TV featuring birds would have a similar effect.

No. Without lightning-quick head-tracking their mind would have dismissed it as an image and not a window the moment they saw it unless the curtains were opened after they stopped moving.

They were probably focusing on making eye contact initially, so the window might have only appeared in their peripheral vision. I'm not sure how that would have affected their abilities to recognize something was fishy.
