I'm as cynical about the government as anyone, but come on. There's much more to it than that.
That said, MOAR FUNNY PICS.
This one is actually pretty simple:
The government does not have to pay a dime to force car makers to put seatbelts in cars or to force people to use them. In addition, by passing seatbelt laws, the government can make money off tickets while looking like it is caring about public safety. Win/win/win for the government.
On the other hand, the government has to pay, either directly in their fleets of buses or indirectly for the leased buses, for seatbelts to be installed on buses AND to monitor their use. In addition, the government cannot make any money off the failure to enforce bus seatbelt use on buses and, in fact can get sued if their use is not properly monitored or if someone gets hurt while using a seatbelt. Lose/lose/lose for the government.

School bus seats are designed to compartmentalize passengers, and the seats are made tall and soft to absorb impact.
Do you really expect a bus full of kids to wear their seat belts properly anyway? Seat belts can do a lot of harm if not worn right.
The backs of the seats on every school bus I have ever been on have been made of steel and were either unpadded or poorly padded. There is little one can do to defend the safety of a bus seat without a seatbelt.

When was the last time you were on a school bus? Just curious. This certainly wasn't the case for mine.

0.3 school aged fatalities a year in over 25,000 collisions. Are we really concerned about the lack of seat belts?
Last year when I went on a filed trip with my daughter. No seatbelts. Little padding on the backs of the seats.
1/5 of all accidents (including minor fender-benders, I suppose) involved a personal injury. How many of those could have been prevented with seatbelts?

It's weird how a lawyer can know absolutely nothing on how the government works.
Seriously, just shut the fuck up about your idiotic conspiracy theories.
Please, tell me how the government works when it comes to mandating seatbelts for kids in cars, but not on school busses?

Twenty three million kids nationwide ride the school bus every day, and the bulk of them are making the trip without a seat belt.
So why do cars come with seat belts and most school buses don't?
It comes down to cost and design.
Large school buses don't need seat belts because the seats are specifically designed to absorb the impact if a child was thrust forward in a crash: They are close together, high and padded, explains CBS affiliate in Minneapolis. This safety system is called compartmentalization.
Moreover, the cost to install seat belts outweighs the safety benefits.
A study done by the Alabama State Department of Education found that it would cost between $32 and $38 million to install seat belts on all the state's buses, while only saving one life, the station reports.
The federal government only requires seat belts in small buses that weigh less than 10,000 pounds where having a seat belt would affect safety.
The greatest risk isn't riding the bus to school, it's approaching and leaving the bus, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

No. I'll leave it to the fucking idiot who thinks it's a money making conspiracy to prove their dumb theory. Post some actual evidence of your pathetically ignorant views or just SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Oh, look, googling this issue came up with a simple reason:

You're embarrassing yourself, motionman. Seriously, just shut the fuck up.
When you rely on made up theories about 'the government,' you are an ignorant fool. 'The government' is a huge complicated mess, not a unified thing. If you knew anything about 'the government,' you would know this.

How many could have been made worse with improper use?
Because a government agency says it would cost too much money as it would only save one life per year.
Seems to prove my point.

Numerous federal and academic studies have concluded that school buses are the safest form of ground transportation of all, in fact. The National Safety Council says they're about 40 times safer than the family car.
About 440,000 public school buses carry 24 million children more than 4.3 billion miles a year, but only about six children die each year in bus accidents, according to annual statistics compiled the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. About 800 children, by contrast, die every year walking, biking or being driven to school in cars or other passenger vehicles, said Ron Medford, the agency's deputy director.
Only if you're a fucking idiot who believes in conspiracy theories. Jesus fucking Christ, you're just like some dumb anti vaccine moron.
Please, post one shred of evidence to support your idiotic conspiracy theory or GET THE FUCK OUT OF THIS THREAD!

The National Safety Council is not a government organization.
Again, post evidence or get the fuck out.

You are taking this way too seriously.

Why is it assumed that seatbelts in cars will be used properly?
With all the padding (and airbags) in cars, why do we need seatbelts in cars?
