If you've got the Professional version of XP, and possibly 7, use gpedit.msc. Off the top of my head, I don't remember exactly where it is...maybe in the Windows Settings section? There's an option in there to disable the automatic restart.

(But yeah, the decision to have an automatic and unattended restart was an incredibly dickish thing to do. "You weren't doing anything important anyway. Piss off.")

This has to have been posted by now, but just in case...

I was driving home the other day on the highway and a SUV was merging onto it from a different highway. Right as the grass ended and there are those white diagonal lines, the SUV's rear driver side tire flew off and shot across 3 lanes of traffic somehow weaving it's way in between all the cars and landing on the berm that separated the north and southbound lanes. The SUV stopped in that V shaped area that is kind of like a shoulder between the ramp and the highway. Was pretty crazy.
