Strange. Is that an IED going off? It doesn't look nearly as violent as a few vids I've seen of IED explosions though. Looks like it's a deep explosion the way it lifts the road like that. Doesn't look all that deadly so I'm assuming it's not an IED but for the life of me I can't think what else this would be,

I think you meant IED (Improvised Explosive Device)

When it's that close the pressure wave alone can rupture your innards.

No doubt. However most of the deadly blasts I've seen on videos happen REALLY fast. The shock-wave you are talking about travels at thousands of miles per hour. This blast was slow enough that you can make out details in the blast.

Maybe the expanding gas didn't have enough pressure to accelerate those big chunks of asphalt that fast?
