This hit home.

I'm 53 buy look younger. The seniors call me "young man" and the kids at work call me "pops." Not sure if I should wear skinny jeans or use a cane.

Same boat, 45 but look younger, especially when I'm clean shaven. Most people assume I'm maybe late 20s, early 30s if they don't know me. I saw that comment and thought, yup that's me.

tru dat

Among a vast array of other issues, it makes selecting cultural references . . . . ummm, let's say "challenging."

I found I went almost overnight from constantly finding myself in social contexts where everyone around was much older than me, to finding everyone around me was much younger, with no in-between stage.

Actually, now I come to think of it, that's probably not unconnected to being Gen-X, the least numerous generation flanked by two different baby booms. There's probably a demographic basis for that perceived experience.

Why not both?

I throw it back on them. I'm close to your age. People older than me call me young, I call them boomers/ancient. Younger people I remind them know of the things they have to do that I don't anymore.

bet

Fruit Stripe gum tasted pretty good for about 2 minutes, and after that, it tasted like despair. I'd like to get a pack to remember what it was like, but I wouldn't spend a penny over normal retail for it.
15 seconds, tops.

Why, when I was your age, our area code was "0"

Kidding. Central Jersey started out at 201 and that lasted a long time. But now I think that's just North Jersey. Then the primary for us became 732, which it still is. But they also created "overlay" codes. So my new cell number is in 848.

I'm a man w/o a country I mean area code.
