Yep.... the landing-gear did its job absorbing a lot of the impact! That guy was dropping like a stone!

Actually I was impressed by the A-350 slamming on the "brakes" !

Any landing you walk away from is a good one. ;)

I have a friend who called in retardant drop on his own position. He radioed in the coordinates where he was parked instead of where he wanted the drop. He realized his error when the air tanker banked his way. Pretty pink truck. :p
Never really thought about it. How do they determine coordinates for a remote position? Compass, and eyeball distance?

your lat/lon plus/minus a rangefinder correction.
You get the idea.
Each second of latitude is 101 feet and is constant except for slight variations for absolute elevation.
Longitude is the orange slice problem, so the farther north/south you go the smaller the orange slice per second.
It is the same 101 feet at the Equator, but at the US northern border it is 2/3rds that.

They usually pick the coordinates off of Google Earth when they have cell signal or ArcGIS Field Maps or Avenza Maps when they don’t have cell.

I was on a crew providing structure protection on the side of a mountain, when a retardant drop was made on the fire below the homes we were defending. The guy was awesome, nailed it, though we did get a little pink all over the engine. Amazing violent, it broke the tops out of trees, but it was effective.

I sent out a mass message to a work team. One of the members replied to me only, thinking that he was sending his message to a different team member. In his message, he referred to a third team member as a bitch. I sent a private message asking him to refrain from using "reply all" when replying to mass messages. Now, he sweats. :p

Reply All in the wrong hands man... sad. People get hurt that way.
