Fucking TWC has been throttling our speed from 16 to goddamn 1 MbPS starting around 7:30 the past few nights. I called them up Tuesday night and of course all I got was some beloved patriot-Indi-Bangladeshi person with a fake English sounding name giving me all the usual unplug and plug back in spiel, and I refuse to have someone come out because whenever they do, it won't be around throttling time.

Upload still working like normal (just over 1 MbPS), but not download.

FUCK YOU TIME WARNER. I want to switch to AT&T but our apartment building does not have it available.

You used speedtest.net? Did you try different servers on speedtest.net? Wired connection or WiFi? Reseat both ends of coaxial cable?

Perhaps someone coming out will see a borderline signal with room for improvement. Should probably let a technician come out there...

My internet slows down at certain times of the evening / weekend. I assumed it was load, since cable is shared infrastructure for the switchgroup / neighborhood / whatever.

It used to be a lot worse, but they upgraded some hardware somewhere - got a "free" upgrade in max speed and I guess they decreased the number of people on my (our) circuit, since the night-time Netflix rush isn't bad at all now. (Maybe 15% difference between slowest and fastest. Used to be, like, 50% or more.)

i tracked my speeds on ATT for a month.... like clockwork weekdays between about 4:30 and 9 my 6mbps line would drop to about 1.5 max.... i kept screenshots and history. i e-mailed them the graphs i made and finally talked to someone knowledgable that told me they weren't throttling me on purpose, the router for our region was just tapped out. I cancelled my service and went to comcast. A few months later out of the blue i got a check in the mail from ATT for the value of 3 months of internet service.

If anything, cable really has smaller, more-manageable segments versus DSL. The old anti-cable DSL ads were a bit misleading.

There's also a lot more WiFi traffic from neighbors (interference) during those hours...

On my 60mbps connection, I can test any time of the day and get 60mbps. For me, the only exception is when there's something wrong with the cable signal.

Tier 2 should be able to do a direct performance test from your modem to their neighborhood hub.
