Whale shark and it seems they are not protected.
I believe the police impounded it on the way to market from the article I saw.

He was trying to weasel out of catching it saying it was caught in the net accidentally trying to get at the fish, when they are plankton type eaters like most whales.

They do occasionally eat large packs of small fish. They have video from some documentaries they were filming on oceanic life.

I actually thought they were no good to eat like Basking sharks, turns out that isn't the case.
I don't think you have to soak the meat in milk overnight either, as the urea levels aren't like with other species. I'm actually curious now, I've had some delicious mako and sandbar shark before maybe whale shark is on par or even better?

I guess we should be happy those Chinese are making good use of the animal, instead of the usual 'fins-only-thanks' bullshit that fuels the Chinese need to appear wealthy at the dinner table.

As harsh as that sounds, I do give them credit for placing a ban on whale sharks. Now they just have to get serious about all the other species they're wiping out for their dicks and appetites.
