no disrespect to the thread starter this is all just my opinion

i dont get the appeal, that thing is tacky imo and to viciously defend it by calling fans of other brands snobs is lame. welp ill still take a german car over that gaudy pos anyday, them germans know a thing or two about aesthetics. proportions and driving dynamics on early bmws are perfection. yes some people who drive them are posers but a lot aren't. the brand hasnt become infamous without good reason and you know and i know that they have been the benchmark that other brands like gm were striving for when they were drafting up there v. bmw has been falling off when it comes to there sports sedans, the 3 and the 1 are still good cars but the rest of the brand has gotten boring.

that being said cars like the e39 m5 and e46 m3 are destined to become classics, this thing will be forgotten as soon as that ugly angular body goes out of style. just like the cts before it!

Jesus would drive an Alfa, partly because he's the only one who could keep it on the road 100% of the time. Grr..

Don't mind me, I'm just pissed that my old 2000 crapped itself again. It's amazing how much a person can love and hate a car so much, at the same time.

Meanwhile, that "gaudy POS" outperforms your choice of vehicle in every performance aspect.

But hey, not everyone buys cars for performance. Some just want the badge.

BMW hasn't made a good mid-size sedan with a big stonkin v8, ever.

The e39 m5 is a joke. I can't believe the following it has, considering the devastating carbon build up issues along with a steering box that should've been binned in the 80's.. Let alone a 2003 'top of the line' sports car.

Just about every BMW v- engine has had major vanos issues.

MB makes a decent v8 sedan, but once you hit worthwhile AMG territory you are talking $80k cars with maintenance that really will make your head spin. Yes, you should be able to afford $80 oil changes on cars at this level, but with AMG you also need to be prepared to write a $8k check minimum if a major issue comes up outside of warranty. With MB you can't get a manual. It's not really a sports car, more sports touring.

But the biggest issue by far with the germans is getting them worked on. I hated taking mine on road trips because I know if there was some issue I'm dealing with a tow to a shady shop, at best. At worst, I'm having the thing towed home across state lines.

With the cts-v, any shop with a tech II can work on it. There's little worry of getting stranded in some oddball city and being unable to find a decent shop. It has the super popular LS engine, any speed shop can rebuild it without an issue. It's a very stress-free experience compared to the germans.

I'm fairly sure that in the US the only manual trans mercedes is the slk, and even overseas no AMG car comes in a manual.

I just don't really get worked up on who loves or hates the CTS. There is enough interest, aftermarket and used car market to enjoy owning one. Personally, having the choice and something unique or even despised is good enough for me. I know what the car can do on the track or a long road trip and I'm very satisfied.

Worries about oil change costs yet ready to throw 40k down the toilet. lol.

Nobody is worried about oil changes at all.

Oil changes, headlight bulbs, 100k powertrain warranties, etc. These are benefits to the CTS-V vs. any exotic that performs as well as the CTS-V. The V is not a Porsche that needs a ridiculous amount of $$$$ whenever it goes into the shop. It's a GM product, with off the shelf and cheap replacement parts, and easily serviced at 1000's of garages across the US.

And yet eats Mustangs and Corvettes at the drag strip and has BMWs, Mercedes, and Porsches for dessert at the 'ring while having at least an equal interior and comfort level, suspension as cush as a Lexus or as hard as a dedicated track car at the touch of a button, with the reliability of a pushrod GM.

Seriously the only reason not to like the CTS-V is if you already bought a BMW or Mercedes and you are upside down and stuck with it and unable to trade up to a V.

Actually it's called AWD. I like the CTS-V would trade it in if came in AWD performance variant. Hell I would even consider the new twin turbo CTS model if it came AWD. But I really don't want two cars and RWD would be a nightmare with the snow we got this year in the north east.

The moment it comes out with AWD i'll consider it. Until then I'll keep my Audi.

I can't imagine many people care about an awd cts-v.

It's all about 'american muscle'... IE huge motor and rwd. I actually think awd would dilute it significantly.

//m and AMG don't do awd and that's the cts-v main competitors.

The biggest thing holding back the cts-v, in my mind anyway, is brand quality.

Even the very newest cts has tons of rattles. It's an overall quality issue. I think most people trust the powertrains, but the rest of the car is a gamble. Dash rattles, that sort of thing.

Cadillac needs to focus on improving and marketing an increase in overall vehicle quality. They still have a ways to go to get rid of the catera/fwd image from the 90's.

AMG actually does do AWD the E63 AMG is AWD. I'm hoping the next c63 will be AWD as it would give me another car to choose from.

Anyway it's fine Audi will keep a corner on the Northeast US as long as nobody else offers performance AWD.

There is very little use for 550hp awd cars in the snow... Just my opinion, but if you can afford a 70k++ sports car then you most likely have a wintertime subaru or truck to drive in bad weather.

Audi has a strong foothold of the 'medium performance awd sports car' market. It makes little sense to adapt a very specific RWD layout just to try and compete with an essentially non-existent 'high performance awd sports car' market.

Past that, rwd cars have specific handling characteristics... Audi is known for the way their cars handle. To try and compete with that is a huge risk that does not make good business sense for cadillac. They're trying very hard to define their cars as sort of simple RWD high performance luxury. The last thing they need to do is add in yet another complicated factor into the equation.

........And I'm not even getting into how often you see people cry "OMG if they would only make this super specific $70k I would buy it" who disappear if the car ever actually shows up.
