If you can generalize from Jesse Jackson Junior to "All Democrats", may I generalize from Christine O'Donnell to "All Republicans"?

Yea, good thing no one on the left does that kind of thing around here.

Outrageous! Next thing you know he'll be demanding the 40 acres and a mule they were promised after the civil war for all those centuries of slavery!

I know, let's send them all a coupon for some chicken instead. You know the old saying, "A chicken in every pot".

While we're at it we can send some plastic beads to the native Americans for all the land we stole from them.

...give people a right to a home, medical care, education, laptop, and ipod of course :D

So says Jesse Jackson Jr:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhdPrA0b1UM

Yup, you heard it. We can simply change the constitution and mandate ourselves into prosperity and employment. Worked out great for the USSR right?

We have people in congress that don't even understand what rights are and don't know the first thing about economics.

Sounds just like the USSR. Thats america's "brighter future" Jesse?

Wow, simply ridiculous.

Nice Fox News hack job with the editing for this OP. I'm sure Roger Ailes can use you at News Corp.

For those interested in the truth in JJJs speech here is the unedited tape of the House session speeches from Mar 2. Forward to around 6hr 54 min and listen to his entire speech.

http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/HouseSession4016

I'll just refudiate a few things and people who listen to the speech can wade the rest of the way through the troll chum.

Jackson was quoting a speech made by FDR post WW2 on why the government needs to focus on raising the standard of living for middle and lower class americans for the country to be healthier as a whole.

Also your first sentance in the OP was an outright lie.

Not everyone will agree with what he says but its tough to walk down that discussion path when starting out knee deep in bullshit.

Aww I'd knew we'd get at least one apologist :D

He clearly talks about how much employment changing the constitution to entitle people to homes, education, laptops etc would bring.

Stop sticking up for this socialist bullshit economic illiteracy.

Again you are so anxious to label Jackson as a nut you're not paying attention to my point. The quotes were not true. You heard what you wanted to hear from an edited YT post.

Find me the quote where Jackson says the constitution should be modified to guarantee everyone a laptop ad I'll withdraw all my replies.

"He says we need to add to the constitution of the united states the right to a decent education for every American. How many schools would such a right build from Main to California? How many people would be put to work building roofs and designing classrooms and providing every student with an ipod and a laptop?"

Is he not saying that this is a good idea? If I am in error I will gladly retract all my statements in this thread.

Did you listen to the unedited speech? Again nothing said about using Constitution to guarentee laptops, ipods, etc. His was surmising the amount of jobs that originate from our right to free speech and the technological advances bourne from it. I'll hand walk you to it, try 7hr 19 min 45 sec.

Good, then we have something new we can steal back from then. First send the coupons for chicken and plastic beads, then tax the shit out of them. Hey, it works for everybody else, right?

While I don't agree with what he's saying, it also doesn't sound like these are his ideas. He says "he says" to start off right after an edit...who says?

Nah, that's classic Jacksonian rhetoric and a family tradition. In Italy one province voted a porn star into office repeatedly and in Maryland they made it illegal to vote for Mickey Mouse. When your vote doesn't count for much and you consistently get the short end of the stick people will do anything to get attention. Personally, I want to see more porn stars in office. I'm sure they'll be even bigger hits with the media.

Don't forget, they could institute Lincolns original plan of deporting the freed slaves to colonize Central and South America where by Lincolns own words, "The climate is more hosipitable to their race".

Alright smartass, I listened to the whole thing.

If we can eliminate unemployment just like we eliminated slavery.
So he's suggesting an amendment to the Constitution.

Congress cannot create jobs short of congress hiring everybody which, Mr. Speaker, is not entirely a bad idea...
Yes, the government should just hire everyone. Great idea.

After having put the last full measure of their devotion on the line to protect our freedom, can this congress will this congress not stop for a moment to guarantee them remuneratable (not a word?) jobs...

Then after some resumes he goes into the quotes in the video listed in the OP, which while taken out of context are valid. Any way you slice it, he talks about modifying the Constitution and guaranteeing every American citizen the right to a house and medical care and all that jazz. In short, he thinks we should mandate ourselves into prosperity somehow. Which is, effectively, communism.

He mentions how many jobs would be created from a right to a decent home. Alright, where are the resources for those homes going to come from? Who's going to pay for them, the bankrupt government? Are companies and people just going to donate the resources because the Constitution says so (command economy)?

The fallacy in his argument is that sees these as rights to basic physical needs. The Constitution and Bill of Rights protect freedoms, not physical needs. There is no amendment that states our right to food and water. We don't have the right to happiness, but to its pursuit. Even the 2nd amendment, which deals with physical goods, does not give us the right "to" arms, it gives us the right to "keep and bear" arms. Otherwise I'd have grounds to sue the government for not issuing me a firearm.

The 1st amendment created jobs by giving companies the freedom to make them. The amendments he proposes provide no freedoms, only a mandate of physical needs that no one outside of woefully insufficient charities would willingly step up to meet under a Capitalist system.

You don't want to do that. You have to maintain a certain population for cannon fodder in wars. In fact, it was the military that suggested the government feed them after WWII. Too many had rickets and other problems because they couldn't afford to eat right.

That's why I suggest coupons for chicken. First you exploit their labor, then crowd them into ghettos and give them access to lots of guns, then you make sure they have enough to eat. The ones that survive make excellent cannon fodder.

It's even worse than that.

Summary: a class action lawsuit meant to cover 2500 black farmers that may or may not have been denied loans by the federal government turned into a $50,000 check for any black person that applied, no questions asked. The government has payed out an order of magnitude more claims than the census bureau indicates exist. It's not mere fraud - it's full on reparations.

thanks for the full clip. while congress is at it, they should try and legislate the laws of physics as well to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil.
LOL The Democrat Party is for the laws of thermodynamics. However we are against their enforcement.

Our nation definitely needs change before free market capitalism transforms it into an impoverished third world country, but Jesse's changes won't fix much because it takes much more than a declaration that everyone should have a home and health care to actually implement it.
