Sessions, who resigned from the Senate to work in the Trump administration, plans to announce as soon as Thursday that he will vie for the Republican nomination, according to three people familiar with his plans. He will face Sen. Doug Jones, the Democrat who delivered the GOP a stunning setback by flipping a seat in the deeply red state in 2017.

Trump and Sessions had a tense relationship after Sessions recused himself from the Russian election interference investigation, a move that angered the president.

Trump is nothing if not petty and vindictive (the US is arguably in its current mess because Obama made fun of Trump in 2011), and it wouldn't at all be shocking if he would rather ruin a GOP Senate run than let someone be "disloyal" to him.

It kinda already happened in that race for Session's vacated seat. Remember, Turmp supported Strange, not Moore in the primary, and while Turmp did throw support behind Moore later, it was clear from the primary that Moore wasn't really his guy (likely because Moore probably hadn't kissed his ass, of course after he lost Turmp shit on Strange and acted like he wasn't behind him either but its because Turmp was desperate to claim there wasn't a link to Strange losing and Turmp's support), which alone probably cost Moore (write-ins were higher than the amount Moore lost by, and it was largely for other Republicans because many wanted a Republican, just not one as despicable as Moore; also because Moore was the candidate, I think it boosted Democrat voter turnout while subduing Republican turnout). But because of the situation over Turmp and Strange after, it ruined any chance of them having a legit alternative candidate so they could've possibly ditched Moore and gone with Strange (the 2nd place person in the primary). And because Turmp couldn't then ditch Moore and go back to Strange after he shit on him. Which honestly, I'm not sure if its even that though, as I think it could very well simply be that after Turmp found out that Moore like sexually assaulting underage women like he does that he thought he was supporting a kindred spirit. Any which way, Turmp fucked up that situation good. Let's hope he outdoes himself this next time.

By that line of logic, well if Bush Jr wasn't such a piece of shit then Obama wouldn't have won, so its really Bush Jr's fault. Etc, etc, etc. I guess we'll ignore Turmp budding up to Republicans that had been compromised by Russia, and then taking over the gaslit cult? And Russian influence. Turmp had been talking about running for decades and its clear he would at some point. He was also desperate to keep his sham brand up, and getting into politics was about the last scam he hadn't run to save his ass. Also, his racism is likely the biggest reason he was so pissed off at Obama, it wasn't that he was being made fun of (he certainly struggles dealing with that, but like you said it was different that time), it was he was being made fun of by a black man that Turmp had not been able to tear down by spreading lies about him. Could well turn out that way. If Trump is going to actively campaign against Sessions, repugs will stay home on election day. We'll see if Trump actually delivers on that promise or thinks better of it.
