Check for updated drivers for video card or maybe a slightly older one. Install DX9 if you haven't...

It's a problem with Cats 3.7 I had the exact same problem. Revert to Cats 3.6 and all will be solved.

See, the difference is, you only THINK hl2 will run like crap on an nvidia... Whereas, we know that there's a problem w/ JKA and ati.... I did find it strange that ATI would have a driver problem though.... :p

benchmarks are facts, not opinions. there is a problem with JKA? like i said cat 3.6 fixes it. also, i dont think you can tell the difference between dynamic lighting on or off. heck, with det50 you cant even tell who your character is cuz of the FUGLY IQ

I've not run any benchmarks, and I doubt you have, so I really can't say how HL2 runs on any hardware.

And Det 50s don't exist. Notice they aren't available for download?

The benchmarking demo isn't released yet....

Besides, we all know that once this little delay is over, Valve will say, "Well, we figured out how to make the NVIDIA architecture work w/ DX9, and it runs fine now! But all of you who bought ATI cards in the meantime, thanks!"

But this thread is about JKA, made by Raven :)

As a general side note, I would advise switching dynamic glow off(besides dynamic lighting if you are running in to issues with stability). It causes a rather massive performance hit that certainly isn't worth the miniscule improvement in visuals(~30FPS on R300 boards).

Man...I mean, really, man. A thread about Jedi Academy turning into a crap-slinging fest about nVidia and HL2. Seriously. This is really starting to give me a tumor.

To the original poster (and I hate to actually address the question in the real thread, sorry) I am running it on an nVidia card and I've noticed that whenever it loads a new level the game will slow to almost a crawl, and I have to exit and go back in. A lot of my friends (ATI AND nVidia users) have the same problem, so there might be something with the game.

Why are you running it on an nvidia card instead of the 2.8C w/ Radeon 9700?

Not having that problem here. Played through about half the game in one setting(without stopping), still averaging just under 100FPS(cg_drawfps 1) when I exited out. Everything set to highest except dynamic glow off, not using vertex shadows(most levels they are cool, but the Hoth level looks cel shaded with them on, too bad because they finally fixed them under the Q3 engine) 6x AF, 2x AA on a Ti4200 @10x7. Can run 12x10 too but I hate off resolutions and 16x12 is a bit too slow for my tastes with my board.
