JD Power ranks GM #1 in quality

People without taste are, by definition, not picky. These 'reports' reflect the buyers, not the cars.

Sorry, but an article about quality with a big picture of an Impala at the top is fucking hilarious. Might as well have a VW Beetle up there with the caption 'MOST LUXURIOUS CAR IN THE WORLD DECLARED.'

The only thing I can comment on about GM is that their lineup has been very boring for many many years.

???

CTS-V (wagon, sedan, and coupe)

Corvette (all)

Cruze is a top pick in its group now. When has GM ever had a great small car. And now in diesel.

and on and on....

Yes, they have a "few" stand out cars, but for the most part they are boring. Just walk into your local GM dealership's showroom, nothing that doesn't cost a bunch of money to catch your eye. Even their pick up trucks are boring.

Sorry, but the Cruze is boring too.

I think GM has improved quite massively. I still don't put them quite up with Honda or Ford, but probably still ahead of most Dodge/VW/Mitsubishi/etc.

That said, I don't trust JD Power at ALL. TrueDelta seems much more accurate, though not as glitzy, and it takes longer to really get a clear picture of the data you're looking for.

Quality and UAW don't go together.

It's pretty apparent that GM has figured out how to let the cars make themselves so that the union workers can sit and watch it happen for $30/hr. Heck, they should give them free Cool-aid and potato chips just to keep them happy.

What does that even mean? So when Lexus tops the same survey, does that somehow illustrate that Lexus owners are without taste, and not picky, for some reason? Or is that only when GM is ranked well? Take your meds.

I've driven on obscene amount of GM vehicles over the past few years. As the article points out, their trucks are very reliable. The Silverado and Express are as bullet proof a work truck as you can get. Their SUVs aren't bad either.

Their cars, well... Lets just say GM hasn't sunk money into producing a reliable road car and the newer models certainly reflect this. You see a lot of the same problems cropping up over countless model years. Probably because GM uses the same platforms with minor revisions.

quality and boring's fine, I mean it's not like Honda or Toyota make less boring cars. When I bought a car last month I test drove a bunch, I'd easily take a Caddy over any Lexus or Acura.

You need to stop saying this. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Really, you the top FUDer in ATG.

They look at how many people go back to the dealer to bitch about their car.

'Herp derp my Impala is the best car ever' guy (a.k.a. you, probably) does a lot more for the brand than the guy who buys a luxury car and comes back for ten 'squeak and rattle' complaints.

I've always found rating reliability on one year old cars ridiculous. Tell me about the quality when it's 5 years old, or more.

5 years is more on the owner many times than the car. Yea if a lot of a line has timing chain problems, sludge, transmission issues, etc... then that would be the car. But general things usually come down to how someone takes care of the car and drives it.

Easy way to check on this is read fourms and car makers TSBs. TSBs are the car makers way of saying we see this sh1t a lot but we are not going to recall it so keep a eye out.

F%^, you are one pretentious mechanic.

GM and Ford = boring car companies trying to play off their past (retro cars etc).

The people who drive them are often less aggressive as well (older people).

What? The Focus is better than the Civic, it's less boring. It has a better suspension. Please explain.

Sorry man, but that's a really narrow-minded statement. GM & Ford are so far away from they were just a decade ago. They actually have lots of competitive and segment leading products. This coming from a Honda/Subaru guy. Hell, wife and I bought a GMC last year because Honda/Toyota products just didn't stack up. Don't bash unless you have first hand experience.

I h8 Brand whores.
I'd look at almost any car company nowadays, not every model of every brand but most would have at least one I'd be interested in. I have an Altima I dont like the redesign however I don't mind the Camry redesign I'd get a Accord over a Civic any day.
I'd still have trouble w German just seem to cost too much to maint and repair. Bunc of Buicks I'd look at Dodge makes a lot of good looking cars still not sure bout their overall reliability.
On topic this was an initial quality survey and I agree with the one guy saying True Delta would be better I like JDP three yr study much better after that like somebody said it then boils down to owner upkeep

Ford's lineup is one of the least boring to look at.

Acura, however, is boring...especially the Acura Civic.
