Sure thats nice, but hardly impressive.

Keanu Reeves would be much more of a celebrity personal hero than this guy would ever be, someone who lives in simplicity and gives tons of his excess to others, rather than hoarding his life with useless materialism, like Leno and his collection.

Did you even read all of my post? The point wasn't about him helping others. The point was that he acquired those cars because he wanted to DRIVE them. Not show them off. Materalism (mind my spelling) is when you buy things to show off and make yourself feel better for the fact of having them. That's not the case with Jay Leno. He feels good when hes tinkering with it..or driving it. Btw, some other odd-ball machines he has:a SHOgun, a mid-engined Ford Fiesta with a SHO engine thats turbochagred and running Nitrous (only Leno's has N20); a turbined powered motorcycle that he actually drives!!; two original steam powered cars again he drives these as well); a 30s car powred by a massive V12 engine that used to power aircrafts in WW (1 or 2..forgot).

  • JAY LENO'S GARAGE

    • Thanks Anooj, I'd forgotten about that. Leno deserves what he's got.

    • No problem. Heh...first time someone on AT used my real name in a post. I'm getting popular! :)

Also guess wat car Conan O'Brien drives to work?? A 1st gen Taurus SHO. That's right. A Taurus from the late 80s early 90s...altho its a special Taurus.

    • Yup, he is ALWAYS talking about his Ford Taurus SHO...

But he is FOREVER mentioning "Porsche, there is no substitute" whenever he gets a chance. Come on Conan Christopher O'Brien...you can AFFORD ten 911's!!! :)

    • I never knew he mentioned his car. What does he say about the SHO? Its cool when they talk about htier cars on air. I thought Conan had a Porsche collection as well?

yeah. I know Dennis Gage (from My Classic Car) did a segment on his steam powered car and his aircraft V12 powered car (thats the ones I've seen). He's probably done others as well. His garage was even shown in an episode of Home Improvement, where Tim sold his hotrod and was looking for another project. He was in Leno's garage looking for one. Leno cameo-ed as a sweeper boy in that episode. He was sweeping the garage and cleaning the cars.

I'm pretty sure if you stood outside his garage and saw him, and if you asked him niceley and showed geniune interst in cars; he'll let you see them. Thats my plan when I visit Cali. I'm gonna stalk outside his garage waiting...

    • He mentions his car at least twice a month. Whenever ANY guest mentions ANYTHING about a car, Conan always says "Yes, and I drive my old Ford Taurus SHO...one of the finest automobiles ever assembled." And he ALWAYS gets a laugh from that:p

Haha, he had Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the show about a month ago and Conan was telling Jr. about the time he met his dad. He was like:

"So me and a few of my crew went to go do a segment at the Indianapolis Speedway and we drove there in a Dodge Caravan rental. We met up with your dad and he said that he'd take us for a ride on the track. So I was like, whoah cool. He then hopped into the passenger seat of the Caravan and told me to get my ass on the race track in the minivan. I was like HUH? So we get on the track and I'm doing like 60 MPH and Dale is yelling 'Faster damnit' and jams his foot down on mine and we go flying around the track."

That's not word for word what he said, but close enough :)

KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR interviewing CONAN O'BRIEN

PHILLIPS: Speaking of money, do you really drive a '91 Ford Taurus?

O'BRIEN: Excuse me, it's a '92. It's a Ford Taurus SHO, and that thing -- that is a ride. I don't care what anybody says. I know Letterman and Leno have their fancy cars, but the Ford Taurus SHO is a sweet ride.

PHILLIPS: Does it go fast?

O'BRIEN: It goes -- sometimes I've had it -- I've had that baby up to -- once, 75 miles an hour.

PHILLIPS: Ooh, you and little E, I can see you taking it around at Daytona.

O'BRIEN: I've had many rappers compliment me on my sweet ride.

PHILLIPS: Your hoopty?

O'BRIEN: Yes, exactly. Now you've last me. I don't know what you're talking about now, Kyra.

PHILLIPS: All right, I'll help you out. I didn't go to Harvard, but I know what hoopty means.

All right, so $8 million. You drive a Taurus. Are you a tightwad?

O'BRIEN: What are you talking about? I didn't say I drove just any Taurus. I said the Ford Taurus SHO. It has a superfast engine.

PHILLIPS: This is now a commercial for the Ford Taurus, I love it.

O'BRIEN: I know, if I don't get a free Ford Taurus out of this, I'll be very angry. By the way, I'd also like to mention that I love Snickers bars, too.

PHILLIPS: Really? Now you'll get free Snickers.

O'BRIEN: Now I'm aiming lower. I don't think I'm getting the free Ford Taurus. I just want to say the Snickers, that's a fine candy bar.

Article on Jay Leno by Dennis Gage (from "My Classic Car")

Jay isn't just some rich guy with a bunch of automotive museum pieces. He amazed me with the depth of his knowledge about every vehicle in his collection. And he was as comfortable talking about form as he was about function. He could move seamlessly from waxing philosophical about the beauty and elegance of a Gordon Buehrig body design, to standing at a work bench beside a Jaguar whose engine was completely torn down, grabbing up various components (and fragments) to illustrate the nasty things that can happen inside an engine when a valve hangs up.

He believes that cars were made to be driven and that's exactly what he does. He drives them all and he drives them hard. And if (or rather, when) they break, he fixes them and drives them some more. Unfortunately, most of the craftsmen that specialized in fixing these rare machines have gone out of business because nobody breaks them any more. However, Jay certainly does his part to keep the remaining ones in business....

......Jay was a gracious host and just an all around great guy. He's passionate about the hobby and concerned about its future. He commented frequently on how important it is to continue to bring young people into the hobby and believes it's a heck of a lot more exciting to see some cool classic cruising down the road than to see it roped off in a museum.

We have some Rolls Royce aircraft engines in our Engines Lab at University...wow...I can just stand there and stare at them for hours on end, admiring all the intricate parts of it.

As for the above car, whoever drives that needs some balls of steel man. Dang.
