Java updates???

Hi,

whats going on with these stupid Java updates? Everyday I get popups saying there is an update blah blah... Its starting to piss me off.

Is there something wrong with my computer, or is Java such crappy thing it needs daily updates or what?

??? Grrr 🙁

They don't release new versions every day, but they do release updates every so often. Maybe uninstall the old one(s) and then go get the latest version. Java needs to be kept up-to-date for security reasons.

well it has been annoying, its like the executables need to contact the server way too many times. so you either click the firewall prompt a dozen times, or add even more rules to your firewall meh

It is annoying. I turn auto update OFF.

Ugh. I'm currently developing a Java program using JTables. I'm using certain (really cool) features that I recently realised are only available in the latest version (v6) of the runtime. It's going to take me several hours to build in these features myself if it turns out the client does what you do. Sigh.

Just don't support your program unless the client is running Java v6 or higher. 😉

We have auto-updates disabled on a handful of machines that use Java apps that *must* have a specific version of Java installed... for all of the others, updates are enabled *or* they are disabled and we do it automatically. There's no reason not to update it, usually.
