What's funny is the Lakers made a great trade giving up next to nothing for a 27 year old Gasol, but the Mavs and Suns have traded major pieces of their teams for their respective 35+ year old all-stars. Panic trades, both of them.

Didn't cuban just say yesterday they weren't going to trade for kidd? Ah well. NBA is pretty interesting this year. I bet Lebron is totally frustrated, and rightfully so.

Can't believe we actually did this. I'd rather get rid of Howard than Harris, but that's just my opinion. We lost way too many players for Jason Kidd. WTF was Cuban thinking? Any two of those would equal a Kidd, but not 4.
really? Howard instead of Harris?
Yes. I'm not too sure about this season, but previously, Howard was putting up better numbers. I've just never really been impressed by his play...I think long term Harris is going to be better, but that's just my opinion from all the games I've seen him play.
so you'd rather give up maybe your best or 2nd best player who's a SF instead of your decent PG to get a top notch PG?
Harris is supposed to be the PG of the future, or was the intent when we signed him to an extension. I don't see Howard as the PG of the future, starter or not.
And Kidd is hardly a top notch PG anymore, not by a long shot.

This is pretty much the rest of the WC admitting they can't compete with the Lakers for the next decade and they are gonna sell their souls to try and win it all this year or next.

to be fair, Stackhouse will be bought out and the Mavs possibly can get him back. Kidd is a clear improvement over Harris, and honestly, Devean George is garbage. Brandon Bass is definitely improving, so while losing Diop hurts, Kidd changes everything. Now you have a starting lineup of Dirk, Howard, Jason Terry, Dampier, and Kidd, which is pretty damn impressive.

Lakers have probably a few year window for a Championship. The up and rising Hornets will definitely challenge the Lakers in the future. Plus, Lakers will need to fork over a lot of money to resign/extend Bynum.

impressive starting five, but what's their bench like? can't expect the starters to play 48 mins every game... esp kidd.

You talking about the guy who got the Cleavland Cavaliers to the NBA finals by himself last year?
Lebron was a huge surprise in that he might actually better than he was originally hyped up to be.

Their window is much more than a few years. Kobe is still only 28, Gasol is 27, Bynum is 20. There will be no issue extending Bynum, I guarantee it. Dr Buss has always been willing to pay for superstars, especially young ones. Lakers, Blazers, and Hornets will be the teams to deal with in the West for a good period of time.

Getting kinda off topic here...
Kidd and Malik Allen will go to Dallas for 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, Devean George, Maurice Ager, $3 million and two future No. 1 draft picks. In a side deal, the Nets sent guard Antoine Wright to Dallas for a future second-round pick.

Well, yeah, no shit. Except Kobe, Gasol, Odom each are making like 15 mil/year, and Bynum will probably also command a maximum contract as well. That's a lot of money right there. I mean, I suppose you could try retain that same productive bench while shelling out 60 mil/year for 4 players, but then you're treading into Yankees territory, and paying that much, you'd better win a championship.

Uh... Howard is a swingman, plays the 3. Plus, Harris is definitely overrated by Dallas coaches/etc. He just doesn't have a presence on the court to lead the team. ANd really, Dallas just didn't have a true leader. Now they do in Kidd.

They would be approaching the Knicks salary level... except they would actually have a good team. And max contracts for younger players like Bynum isn't that close to those of the older veterans. Also they could try to trade Odom since they already have Bynum & Gasol.
