me also, but i like Jamie Foxx

The way he (Foxx) says "Ohh Rah." at the end of the trailer sent a little shiver down my spine and gave a few goosebumps. He just looked like a Marine ready to kil and nothing else.

Yeah, he must have really been motivated to make up for that turd of a movie Stealth. ;)

Those are the kind of movies I can't stand though.. movies like The Mummy, Saharra, Serenity.. I know they arn't war movies but what they have in common is TOO MUCH comedy relief, and none of it is funny too much. It just subtracts from the experience.. please don't try to be too funny if the movie is going to be about a war, I'm trying to watch a serious story here and too much humor just makes me mad.

i guess you have to be a marine to catch how marines are.

the movie is nothing like the marine corps. it's a lot more like the army. it's just basically a story of a marine made by a director that have no clue about the marines. how they act, talk, conduct. they made it feels like an army movie...i dunno.
The director didn't just make it up...

i think the movie looks alright, but Jake Gyllinger (dont care that i spelled it wrong) is a horrible HORRIBLE actor. he cannot show emotion to save his life. he was horrible in donnie darko, he as horrible in the day after tomorrow, and he was horrible in bubble boy. he is just an all around horrible actor.

there is no way in hell i could see him playing a marine and pull it off, especially since i have a bunch of marine friends who show more emotion in one afternoon hanging out than Jake Gyllinger shows in all 3 of those movies I listed above.

Just saw it last night, nothing special in my opinion. The previews are more exciting......and I never really cared for any of the characters either.

i would have to rate it slightly better than that at about 3/4 stars.

i thought the acting was decent but the movie took some unexpected trips into an almost comedy-feel at times. i was not expecting this.

overall it left me curious as to the authenticity of the story - really, it left we with a greater curiosity for what life as a soldier is actually like.

anyone who is in the services, i'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this film.

Did they take the time to develop the characters and give enough time for the audience to bond with them before having bad things happen to them?

yea id say they took enough time to develop characters before stuff happens.

i think it could have possibly been very true.

i know how a lot of the ppl ive seen felt when they went and when they came back.

a buddy who went over to the latest war over there was a Marine Corp. Sniper, and had 1 confirmed and 1 unconfirmed. he was proud of the confirmed. and some of the things they showed in the movie show how the marines can get when stuff happens not normally.

i also saw a photo of what an SAW does to a human body... yea... 8 bullets from it... yea...

That's rather unconventional. Marines generally tend not to talk about their own kills, confirmed or unconfirmed. Even though that's our job, it's still considered a very personal thing that each Marine deals with by themselves. It's considered bad taste to brag about kills in combat. That's what citations and medals are for.

I learned this the hard way when i was a young Marine and i asked a senior combat veteran if he had any confirmed kills when he was talking about combat. Another Marine later pulled me aside and explained that you don't talk about it because that's between the individual Marine, his god, and the enemy.

edit: fixed quotes

This is more of an age/ reflection thing. Having been around the Corps my whole life I've seen plenty of young "braggers".

Defninity agree with you.. I am about to commission as a 2LT butter bar. From my expeirences with vets and members of the service in college, they don't like to talk about it at all. I have a few good friends who are Rangers. I have a few Force Recon pals as well. They have been through the ******. I can only imagine what they have seen, however they just dont like to talk about this things.. Yeah they might be hard corp, but talking about kills is not something they do not do.. I made that mistake my knob year asking questions and I was put into place quickly. And by the way thank you DJFuji for everything you have done and what you stand for.

EDIT: Sorry for the errors... sleepy need to hit the rack.

I thought the movie was good.

My friend who was in the Army in England has 3 confirmed kills. It isn't a big deal imo. We are good friends and I just asked him out of curiosity. He wasn't bragging about it. It was just a fact. If your going to be in the forces you must expect to have a few kills right? I wonder how many people in the forces that see field service/ war/ (sorry I'm a civilian) etc do not have any kills?

This is my rifle.

There are many like it, but this one is MINE.

My rifle is my best friend. It is my life.

I must master it as I must master my life.

My rifle without me is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless.

I must fire my rifle true.

I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me.

I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

My rifle and myself know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire,

the noise of our bursts, nor the smoke we make.

We know it is the hits that count. We will hit...

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life.

Thus, I will learn it as a brother.

I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories,
its sights, and its barrel.

I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage.

I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready.

We will become part of each other. We will...

Before God I swear this creed.

My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country.

We are the masters of our enemy.

We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until there is no enemy, but PEACE.
