i think most american moms would LOVE to make lunches like that for their kids everyday. not much time though when mom leaves for work before the kids go to school. americans work more hours then any other country, and this is part of the reason why its NOT a good thing. little things like a nice love filled lunch everyday can have a tremendous impact on a childs life and it can carry over into adulthood as well.

when i was growing up, almost everyone bought their 'dollar lunch'. it was a monthly punchcard you get that basically fed your kids a hot prison food style meal for $1 a day.

the rare days when mom did pack our lunches, i felt like a rock star going to school. i hated all of the schools food though, it was just gross. for what my mom lacked in not sending us to school with real food, she made up for it bigtime at night with home cooked dinners as much as she could. and to this day i am EXTREMELY thankful for that.

Ironically, USA is #3, Japan is #2, as far as who works the most hours.

Typical American schoolkid lunch: PB&J sandwich hastily wrapped in tinfoil and some potato chips in a sandwich bag.

That shows loving how, exactly? Not saying that is what you give your kids, merely stating what I know through my experiences/what I've seen.

Actually, typical American schoolkid lunch: square pizza, carrot/pea combo, diced peaches and milk. Don't know many kids nowadays that bring lunch.

Cool...I guess, but why were so many of them filled with what looked more like fish bait than food?

()🙂

im sure they say the same about our meals. "why do so many american meals look like a big pile of digested cow parts?"

and the answer IS.... because thats what it is!! 😀

I don't know about you, but I prefer my cow parts undigested...until AFTER I eat them.

do you wonder why they do documentaries here on chubby kids and not there? I love a good burger as much as the next guy, but the kids grow up eating this stuff - they don't care.

that is fucking stupid.

it does not show they care more about the kids.

I pack lunches for my kids often. they get a healthy and good lunch. the fact i don't draw faces on the bread does not say i love my children any less then the parents in Japan.

QFT.

It seems that those kids' Mothers just care more for their kids than the average American Mom does. A thoughtful lunch, packed with love, takes time and energy to make. Two things most lazy American mothers don't have or won't ensure they have.

That said, I am really sick of all that Anime crap. Why does EVERYTHING in Japan have to be some talking animal with huge, googly eyes, or a robot with death-blaster hands?

You can still fit a lunchables in one of those things. No time & energy required.

why do you hate your kids so much???

I know. how selfish of me for not flying to Japan to take the class on how to make sushi in the shape of nemo.

sniff. i wonder if my kids will ever forgive me? 🙁

Don't most school restrict kids from bringing their own lunch?

no. in fact that's a rare thing. Some schools are restricting what you can bring though.

lunch is easy to pack but i admit it cost more then the crappy school's lunch ($1.30 but it is made fresh daily unlike many schools).

You'll know the answer when you're old and alone.

But that is for the people that DO work. In Japan only 44% of households are double-income, and of households with children even fewer are double income (it also appears that a significant number of the double-income households in Japan is two generations of men working.) Women still have not joined the workforce of Japan the way they have in the US. For comparison 93% of American households are double income.
Only about 9% of Japanese women with children work full time.

Where do you live that schoolkids are allowed to have PB&J sandwiches. PB has been banned from schools ever since my middle kid was in kindy.

spend 20+ years raising someone just for the chance they might help you when you get old? :/ i know most people when they get old, with kids or not, are very lonely. exactly the reason i say PUT ME IN A HOME! 😀

Link to your source? I have a feeling the percent for american women is not much higher.

yep and that pizza? not real cheese. those veggies and fruits? highly genetically modified laced with preservatives. milk? its milk, hard to digest and a redundant form of calcium plus fat.

im not kidding. i went to jail when i was 19 and the first thing i thought when lunch was served was "hmm... very familiar". i didnt eat much in jail just like being back in grade school where i usually went hungry until i got home.

thanks. i knew i wasnt wrong! 😀

but hey, american women wanted independence. they wanted more responsibility and equal pay. well, they got it. ugh
