She used penknife/boxcutter. She made her friend kneel down before it. She slit her throat several times, then slashed up her arms, trying to slit her wrists.

Now, no matter how many times u seen it on tv, this is not easily done...more so by an 11yr old small asian girl. You gotta be pretty damn wild to perform this...almost harakiri style.

...its alike the beheading by the 14yr old kid a few yrs back and the more recent 12yr old pushing 4yr old from building.

we had plans to move to japan...now i'm not so sure.

Dude, I'm not saying what you should or should not do but crazy stuff happens everywhere, seriously. E-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. Do not let this discourage your plans.

Besides, who's to say she didn't have a mental disorder? That's, somewhat random and location independant

I'd rather see one person killed with a sword than an entire school held hostage by gunmen (who killed many).

I just don't see the relevance

The relevance is they have no guns so the bloodshed is less, if they had guns, it can be 10x worse. Similarly, if we had no guns here, you can expect there to be little to no 'hostage' situation as you described above. The is no gun debate.

What i'm pointing out is the level of savagery that they exhibit.

I worked as a JHS teacher in Japan for two years and can tell you its no different there than here.

You will always have a class of smart kids, dumb kids, violent kids, introverted kids, etc no matter what country you are in.

It shouldn't be surprising just because this violence happened in Japan.

The main difference is that in Japan just about every crime is reported and taken seriously no matter how small or large.

...still think its damn cool to live in japan? i know there are a lot of japanese lovers on this board, hell in the US, but things are just getting worse by the year. Beheadings, juvenile murders, etc, rising double digits. Sure, the US and other countries have its share too, but i think its MUCH easier to shoot someone than to kill someone bushido style. You must be pretty FU'ed or just plain savage to be able to perform that.

They remind me and mirror the killings in movies like BR, Ichi the Killer, Suicide Club...etc.

I have japanese relatives, know the language and culture, so this is particularly un-fun.

1. The cried of moral decay always exit. Do you read your newspaper?

2. In my opinion, Japan is probably the best place to live in the world *IF YOU HAVE MONEY,* and lots of it. Otherwise, it's probably one of the worst. I really don't feel like justifying this right now cause It would take a while.

BR was great man!! on a side note, there is violence everywhere, some not noted as much as elsewhere, or given as much thought...it is still sad though

Guns are banned in Japan and held only by police and SDF members. There is an increasing supply of handguns available through the black market/Yakuza but it's not as widespread as the US...ergo, it is NOT as easy to shoot someone than it is to stick them with a knife or some other sharp object. Kids can't walk into the closet, grab dad's glock and shoot a classmate.

Also, keep in mind that the levels of Japanese violent crime are nowhere near the levels experienced in the United States per capita. The media tends to freak out when one of these childhood incidents happens because it is so rare. Turn on your 'quality' 6:00 local news and see what has happened. Odds are the "top story" (ironically enough, eclipsing more important issues like the ELECTION) is that Mr. X was shot dead at Y Street.

I don't know what kind of gun you're using but as far as I know, when you shoot someone the usually BLEED.
