They are marketing them towards people on diets or who don't want to have the immense amount of sugar and calories in a typical jamba juice smoothie. Most of them have >500 calories and >100G! of sugar for an "original" size. Though it's healthier since it's mostly real fruit (some have sherbert/yogurt/sugary juice added), it's still a LOT of calories/sugar for the healthy image that they promote.
I totally agree though, the Enlightened ones do not taste good. For someone who otherwise wouldn't be able to drink a normal one, they are a good alternative to nothing at all or a soft drink, but they don't stand up to the normal ones.
