Jaguar X-Type

I rented a Jag X-Type this afternoon (because some moron backed out of a driveway and hit my parked car  ), the thing looks nice but drives like crap. No pickup, no cornering ability, heck, my Maxima is a much better drive!

without all those reliability issue. was the one OP got a 2.5? i've heard the 2.5 is POS but 3.0 is alright.

it's just like topgear with the 1500-pound porsches... a jag at bargain basement price is just... wrong.

you rented a FORD?

why?

🙂

My parrents thought the same thing. Said the build quality was low and the who feel of the car was cheap.

They should have given you the XJ8 (the 70k one...which is a much nicer car) or at least the S type.. Ford fleet rentals (depending the company you renting from) usually allow you to pick.

BTW, the X type now with incentives is somewhere in the 23-25k range. Not a bad buy when compared with Accords and Camrys.

The new Jags do not have the quick handling of the pre-Ford ones. The numbers say that it's not any slower, and should corner well, but they feel ponderous compared to the older XJ6. Of course, the cream of the Jag sedans was always the elusive XJ6C! Lighter, shorter, and still has the classic XJ looks!

My dad has the 2.5 with manual (people need to stop buying slushboxes). I took it for a spin yesterday and found it actually quite nice, though my dad was in the car so I couldn't let it properly stretch its legs. One thing I found was that the clutch felt a lot like that in my max - at least a lot more so than the corolla I had to drive a few days earlier (in which you can feel zero clutch engagement, but that's what you get with a cheapy I guess!).

Wrong. The Cougar was based on the OLD Mondeo/Contour/Mystique platform. The X-Type is based on the current Mondeo platform used in Europe
