I loathe the crap that Ja Rule calls music, for that matter a lot Em's recent material has'nt been that great either. He was much better before he got all of the exposure

A "battle", as in a rap context, what exactly is it?
As I understoof it's basically just two guys "singing" stuff about each other's mothers, dogs, etc?

Does it count if someone just says stuff out loud at any time?
Like Eminem takes the chance at some MTV award and says "Ja Rule's mom is so fat I had to roll her in flour and look for the wet spot", would that be considdered a challenge, or does it have to be a song?

Initially the battle basically came from a good natured roast fest. 2 people would go back and forth using rhymes trying to colorfully demean each other. In the underground hiphop arena there are people who actually make a living by battling and freestyling. Like anything in this world there's a certain skill to it and if you ever had the opportunity to hear 2 mc's who are really good at it engage in a battle you'd probably be impressed. Unfortunately idiots have managed to exploit this and turn it into an embarrasament for true fans of hiphop.

Of course it's a diss, but it's not a diss that is a response to ja rule's - warrior whatever song. Haile's Revenge is the one I think.
