4.4 Ghz @ 1.26v is pretty discouraging, I do about 4.7 with that

Even though the control is small, the results are constant. OBR used to be all "Hey guess what losers, i have a 3770K its my new toy, I'm overclocking it yayy!" Now if you look at his site, it's "DONT GET IVY, KEEP YOUR SANDIES, IVY DOESNT OC, WAHHHH!"

heheh. I'm still going to wait for some more results, but the reports so far don't look good for IB.

Sorry about the lack of details last night guys. Got home, played Alittle, woman decided she wanted some attention so I went to bed...

Anyway first impressions are that this processor runs cool.... very cool. With the H80 I was getting 20c idles and high 50c cinebench at 4.6@1.32v. Im still learning the biostar bios which is a joke compared to Asus so after some fine tuning I think those numbers will come down.

So the general consensus was right? A poor overclocker due to excessive heat and small die size? If the clocks are under 300-400mhz difference the performance will be exactly like Sandy if you consider the single-digit IPC increase along with the 100mhz bump. So the IVB chips are essentially laptop / HD4000 upgrades :/

SB may be the better enthusiast chip, but it remains to be seen how the power consumption and performance bumps do for the CPUs at stock and normal turbo levels. This might just not be an enthusiasts dream this time around...:/

Well, there is one other issue that we now have with SB. The PCI-E 2.0 bandwidth limitation when running more than one card.

I'm not sure buying a new platform just to crossfire/SLi is a great selling point for a new chipset AND CPU upgrade =P A nice feature, yes, but I'm not even sure why it was limited in the 6x chipsets either.

I'd imagine that the 2011 IB-E's might fare a bit better than these 1155 chips due to that increase in die size. At least I hope so for those waiting on them. Personally, I was sort of expecting IVB to be a mobile chip first and a marginal-at-best upgrade to SB. Now it's just a matter of a Trinity or IVB laptop

What newer steppings? This is the retail stepping. SB has been the same stepping since release. No reason to think IB will be different.

IB is going to be great for laptop/ultrabooks. Like I said many times before, IB is not going to be that much better than SB for desktops. But hey, if people want to spend $300 for their 5-7% increase, that is their business and I am sure they will enjoy it. Personally, I am saving that money for a bigger and better Haswell rig in less than a year.

I had a chance to get a BNIB 2700k for $267 so I figured it would be my "out" if IVB turns out to be meh.

If you can pick up a used 2600k for ~ $250 then do it. If you want to upgrade to IVB you can wait until the hype dies off and sell yours for around the same and get a 3770k.
