Last time I donated, they gave me a name sticker that said "Baby Donor", even though I wasn't there to donate any babies.

Evidently, there's a virus that's common, but I haven't had it. So they can give my blood to babies, as long as the anti-bodies don't show up in my blood.

5 gallons x 8 pints/gal x 3 lives = 120 lives saved (I really doubt this claim, OP. But I'm going with it anyway.)

I'm back in the black. :D

Nah, they're all important.

I wore that stupid "Baby Donor" sticker when we went out to eat that night - totally forgot I was still wearing it. The weird looks from the waiter didn't make sense, until I got home and saw it in the mirror. :D

All blood is tested. I understand trying to minimize high risk behavior, which is more prevalent with same sex relations, but a straight guy who sleeps around constantly is way higher risk than a gay guy in a committed relationship in my mind.

yup. pretty crazy.

I have tattoos, and my ex went to africa on safari, I wasnt allowed to donate for like 8 years because of those things, so I quit.

they are going to test the blood, so they should take whatever they can get

Weighing the number of people I've helped with blood donations vs. the number of people I've ruined through my legal career, I'm roughly even.

Wait, my math was wrong, the end result is actually - 1,837,526.

Even the ATOT effect can't overcome this. We're doomed, I tell you, doomed.

I killed someone once, because a doctor forgot his RSA pin and could not log in to the system to do an emergency diagnosis of someone who needed surgery. It was my fault that he forgot his pin, so I essentially killed the patient. nothing like having the IT manager with the director of diagnostic imaging behind me with several other higher ups giving me hell.

I did donate blood over 10 times though so I'm sure that more than made up for it. :p Started that a few years ago. I can't always go because I sometimes work or have other reasons I can't, when they come here though.

7 gallons x 8 pints per gallon = 56

56 x 3 patients per unit = 168 people helped.

Doesn't say how many lives you saved, though. Kudos to you for donating, anyway!

Mine's a little different then. I think I'm around 65 donations, but the first 12 were whole blood, and everything since then has been platelets. With those, I'm often matched to someone and keep them alive for several weeks.

I guess my number of actual lives saved is probably closer to 40 then.

I have the Universal blood type. I give blood as much as I can. The Red Cross sends me letters all the time.

I started giving when I was 17 or 18 and I've tried to go to as many blood drives as possible as long as I'm not busy or something. Luckily, they have many right here on campus, so I don't have to go far.

There are good scientific reasons for turning people away, even though the blood supply gets tested. It's not that the director of the NIH just has a personal grudge against gay people and Africa.

Ummm unsure but probably into the thousands by now.

Heck yesterdays shift was 3 people. Today only half way through and I'm at 2.

Then again when I donate blood I'm basically padding my stats.

No clue how many I've saved; I don't ask them, they usually don't tell me. The last couple of years, I've been doing all double-red donations. So, it's not really separated into 3 components, which means, I'm getting ripped off! I do one donation, that counts as 2 donations, and I only save 2 people instead of 6? Not fair! :)
