I've graphed a shit load of data... it's called graph paper + pencil.

Yeah, I used to do that until I didn't have to anymore.

Edit: I used to have to make my own graph paper too. There is a specialty type of graph paper (log something something function something) used to plot well drawdowns in dimensionless units. Shockingly, no one ever thought to market the paper so one had to trace each new sheet from templates. Life is more better now.

Log paper is awesome :p

I understand that Excel is a far superior tool for graphing large amounts of data, of course, I've just never had a use for it. I had a friend tell me it was really strange that I'd never used Excel, it didn't seem that strange to me so I thought I'd ask ATOT.

It's strange that you choose to graph things the hard way when spreadsheet programs are so available.

And it looks strange when you hand in a report that's printed except for the graphs that are hand drawn.

thats the thing. you have data to graph...then you have a use for excel. it doesnt mean you *need* it, but i dont need to document all my shit digitally, either. i just do it because its easy to keep up with, edit, backup, modify and share.

Oh, I get it now. This is another one of your threads where you claim to not know/do something that is common for most normal people. Just stop already.

Dude, what the fuck is your problem? I'm sick of you stalking me around these forums, kindly fuck off and stop shitting in my threads, asshole.

I've gotta go with TFP on this one. You're not a dumb guy, there's no way you honestly believe anyone would agree that it's normal NOT to use spreadsheet software? You had to know that people would say "Wait, what do you use to graph/analyze data?" and then you could throw out that you're still cool enough to use Paper + Pencil. I imagine you don't use a document program either (ie Word) because you can just write on lined paper with a pen?

it's a little weird. never had an office job?

I used excel in college... I used it to print out class schedules so that I could better arrange my days and I had one schedule that tracked my GPA, how many credits I had taken (and for which majors/minor), and how many more I needed in various categories.

Really? I have used it for that exact use. :D

I also used it for transfer to track where programs were available (if I can take them cheaper at CC or the Uni) and pick which ones to take while still getting the appropriate credits breakdown.

Astronomy != astrology.

Bigger budget, same degree of usefulness.

Hey now, them's fightin' words.

Yeah, to not have ever used Excel, especially in your line of study, is a tad weird. You should play with it, it's a pretty cool program.

How am I wrong? I can tell you that Final Cut Pro is the best solution for video editing and I've never used that either. I know the Veyron is the world's fastest supercar and I've never driven one of those. How does it endear me one tiny little bit to ATOT to claim I've never used Excel? Stop following me around the forum, troll.

Edit - I'm not your friend, buddy,

My friend, there is no shame in admitting that you were simply attention whoring with this thread. With luck, someone here on the forum may even be able to help you with your problem. So, don't be ashamed, just admit that you lied and all will be forgiven. Everyone knows this.

Yes, you got me. You figured out my masterfully devious plan to fool ATOT into thinking I had never used Excel.

Now the healing process can begin. GodlessAstronomer, please tell the group why you feel it necessary to make up such stories.
