I've never been in an accident because I'm a good driver

If the driver had been going faster, they would have cleared that corner before the girl ever got there and that all could have been avoided. That's why I blow through every blind corner as quickly as possible.

The girl and Driver were O.k
What a stupid comment. Of course the Driver is okay, they were inside the vehicle. Not sure about the poor little girl. Hopefully she was checked for head and internal injuries.

What? You proceed with caution and slow down and check for possible incoming vehicles.
If the driver "blew" through that corner the "accident" would have been worse for the little girl.

yeah, there's not a whole lot you can do to prevent, say, someone rear ending you.

my last big accident, I was stopped at a red light when the lady parked next to me decided to just pull on out into traffic, right into the side of my car... literally nothing I could have done to avoid it.

I rofl'd at how everyone looked at the driver like he was at fault...

I blame Darwin for not following through.

Hey if you want to call it luck that is fine. I'm gonna still bet on me going to the grave never being in a wreck. I look for nut bag drivers and avoid them. Turn down a side street and let them go on their way, expecting to find them in the ditch a mile up the road 😉

do you stop and look both ways every time you drive through a green light?

getting hit by a drunk driver who ran a red light has got to be up there on causes for major auto accidents.

I want to know the legal results of that.

Would the guy be toast without a video proving the girl sped through a blind turn?
Is he still at fault regardless?
Who pays for the damages?

I don't know if I've caused an accident because I was young and stupid and didn't put on my seat belt for a 0.5 mile trip between a restaurant and a gas station. Head + windshield = no memory of the few minutes before the accident.

Either I ran a red light, or the other driver did. I was never ticketed.

no, if he was blowing through corners, he would have been way ahead already by the time she rounded the corner, he would probably be outta the park 😉 😎

for serious though, go slow in an area like that, especially if you can see a bunch of pedestrian traffic!

It does not matter if you drive carefully or not, another careless driver could hit you. It did happen to me last year and a few years ago.

Who pays for the damage to the car?

Serious question--If that was my car, there is no way I am taking a hit for deductible and loss of value.

It's things like that which make me think it would be a good idea to have a dash cam. That footage would probably save their ass if the parents of that girl decided to sue.

Blind corners like that can be dangerous, all too often I see people just fly through.

My mom thinks she is a good driver because she's never been in an accident. But she's constantly getting honked at and clueless about what's going or why people are mad at her. It's only because of the other drivers that she hasn't been in an accident.

I can't tell you how many times I've saved someone an accident because I was paying attention to their stupidity. The people that are worse are the ones who cause an accident but aren't at fault but really they are. You know the ones, pulling out and then slam on the breaks for no reason, or overreact, accelerate at the wrong time, merge wrong etc. Causing someone else to hit them but technically they aren't at fault. Ugh those people need to die.

The people who hit them made the mistake of ASSUMING what they were going to do. If you want to avoid accidents maintain a good distance behind the vehicles in front of you and DON'T ASSUME.

if you've actually got the choice.

around here, if you leave enough space for a vehicle to fit between you and the car in front of you, someone will cut you off to fill that safety space.

Or watch the Russian dashcam videos on Youtube. There are plenty of times where being a good driver would do absolutely nothing to help.

Close your eyes too. Plausible deniability and all that.

can't wait for self driving cars.
I have a sinking feeling that those will take longer than expected.
Like many software problems, you can get 99.5% of the programming done, but that last goddamn 0.5% is what keeps the product from shipping. (Well, it's what should keep the product from shipping.)
Will it swerve for a cat? A squirrel? A dog? A baby in the road?
Will it be able to stop for a person directing traffic by the road? How about a homeless man swinging his arms because Tuesdays are when he thinks he's a wind turbine? What about a wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tubeman? What about a billboard that simply spells out the entry code for the NSA's secret override backdoor?
