I'd like to run everyday but it's just too painful now. Walking sucks. What can I do besides ice my shins?

RICE, check your shoes, and anti-inflammatories as an interim solution. I've also heard walking backwards to build the shin muscles may help as well.

Give it a little rest. Maybe sprinkle in some bicycling or swimming. Not sure what you weigh but maybe lose some weight.

Shin splints is an overuse injury. You've been running too far or too frequently for what your body is accustomed to, without enough stretching and strengthening.

Take some time off running and do non-impact workouts (swimming, cycling, water running).

As for strengthening exercises, you need to strengthen both soleus muscles, the muscles in your arches, and on the outside of your shins.

The bad news is that shin splints can take a while to recover from. I got them again for the first time in years, and after 6 weeks off running, and a lot of physio, I'm finally ready to start a walk/run program to get back into it.

the inside, a little lower than the bulk of my calf muscle

if you can get a hold of someone to ultrasound it and strip it out, you should be ok. also, try some exercises... point your toes inward and stand on your tip-toes for abour 4 seconds and then come back down... do it about 20-30 times, 3x/day.
