1) Talk to your bank. Get that check cancelled
2) Next time she calls tell her to fvck off, if she ever calls you again you'll file a polive report for harrassment.
3) End of story. WORST case scenario, you spend 30 minutes in court and owe 90 bucks. Best case scenario, you never hear from them again

Worst case in this example aint all that bad. 1/2 an hour and 90 bucks gone. I'd go that route, since really thats nothing. Best case is you never hear from her again. I doubt she'll sue.

I understand. Hassel or not, it's just not nice to be taken to the cleaners like she's trying to do.

Either forget about it, or tell her that you'll pay for the new ring as long as she pays for the computer. If her daughter is 17 tell her that as her daughter's legal guardian, she is thusly responsible for paying back the money. She's trying to scam you and she knows it.

Yeah I told her that and she said the computer isnt her problem and shes not responsilbe for it. In the letter I write her im gonna tell her not to call me as im tired of being harassed and I wont be picking up the phone anymore.

Can she also sue for court costs? I doubt she'll bother as well. I'd also tell her to stop calling, because otherwise you'll file for harrassment.

Go over there to "sign the check", and then walk out with it. When they greet you at the door, just stand there. Don't say anything, except maybe something like, "let's get this overwith". When they hand it to you to sign, casually turn around walk back to your car, and drive home. Oh man, I would so do that.. It would be classic.

That'd really piss 'em off. :D And there's no way they could "get you" for taking back your own, unsigned, check.

Don't forget to smile and wave as you drive off. ;)

I agree with Mill. I doubt they'll sue you. But then again, you know these people better than we do.

I was serious about printing something that makes them acknowledge they broke your computer stuff.

Hell, include something about how you're not responsible for the ring, too. When you go over there to "sign the check", state that they both need to sign the piece of paper to consider this settled and done. I bet they won't even read it. :D

Man you are so funny, I dont think I could the monopoly money thing then. Also knowing her mother she probably made a copy of the check just in case I did do that.

A copy of a signed check is worth even less than an actual unsigned check. Get the check and destroy it.

It is purely a matter of principle, I just couldnt take it if I paid because that means they would be winning.

A Pyrrhic victory
A victory gained at too great a cost: like that of the Greek leader Pyrrhus over the Romans in 279BC

Whatever you say, Neville.

Who is "Neville"?

You can't just let people push you around like that. Its a lesson I learned early on.

I was always a skinny weak kid in highschool, but most people didn't really mess with me. Why?

1) I'm a fairly civil person, most people don't have a legitimate gripe with me.
2) I didn't let people push me around.

If a guy said "Do such and such or I'll hit you." I invited him to hit me. Most didn't do anything to me because most people like that are all talk, some wrestled with me for awhile which I often lost. But the point is, they didn't keep messing with me every day...because it wasn't worth the effort. They knew I wasn't just going to give in to their every whim.

A bloody nose or a scraped knee will heal up on its own, but you have to hang onto your self respect. Otherwise you become that weiner kid who everyone rips on and pushes around all the time.

You don't have to win these fights to win these fights.

Pay her the money in all pennies. Have her pick it up from your place.

Yeah I learned this while I was in the military, I dont take crap from anyone know and if someone would dare to actually physically harm me then my training would kick in and they would regret it, im a relatively peaceful person but this kindof stuff just drives me crazy and I will fight this.

Don't take legal advice on here alright? You are taking legal advice from a bunch of 15 year old know it alls. There are only two people (that I know of) on this forum I would take legal advice from (they are both lawyers). You need to impliment a ZCP (Zero contact plan) and don't worry about it unless they take you to court.

The only thing i learned in the 6+ years I was in the Army was how to drink, party, sleep late, and drink some more. Although I was stationed in germany for 5 of those years, so not much else to do.

I doubt either of them will post. Just stop talking to them. The guardian is responsible for the actions of any of their minor children. Those that scream the loudest about suing are often the ones that have no intention of suing. You are just stressing yourself out for no reason. Don't talk to them don't even tell them you aren't talking to them, just stop all contact.

Life is too short. You can't fight every battle and expect to win all of them. Sometimes you have the option to pick and chose your fights. You may not always have the choice which battles you have to fight; in this case, however you do. Don't fight this one. Not worth fighting, not worth your time. Even if you win the lawsuit, you still come out the loser after paying for court fees and wasting time.

Tell her mother to take the ring to her balloon knot and see what she says..

she isn't your responsibility, neither is the ring... you have your own stuff to do...
