Ive got a problem with an Ex and her extremely annoying mother (Legal Problem)

Alright heres the problem:
Well I went to go to basic training for the army and since my computer would just be sitting at my house colloecting dust I let my girlfriend borrow my computer until I got back. Well when I came back and I was finally able to get my computer it was password protected and after reformatting I found out something was very wrong with the pc. Since it was a little dated I decided to buy a new mobo, proc, and power supply which helped me determine that my old power supply was broken. She also broke my keyboard when it at her house too. The old power supply would cost 55 bux if I were to replace it with the exact one and my keyboard costs 40 bux online.

Her problem: I lost her ring while I was in training, I called jostens and they told me it would cost exactly 90.10 to replace

So I figured that since I had to pay to fix my computer then she would be paying for her ring so that we wouldnt have to go through somesort of legal proceding over something so small as this

This is the annoying mother case:
Her mother keeps harassing me and telling me that she will take me to court if I dont not pay for the ring, I told her that I dont feel I need to pay for the ring since I had to pay for my computer repairs. She states that since her daughter was 17 at the time that she wasnt responsible for the destruction of my computer.

Can she take me to court and win for this? I almost want to pay the money just to stop being harassed by her but that would be giving in since I think i'm in the right here. My ex was 17 when I let her borrow this but wouldnt that make her parents responsilbe for the destruction of my property?

What do you guys think?

Uh... I vote just ignore it completely. This sounds like something that will just go away and you are only giving her mother gratification by worrying about it.

These people live for drama and they really are horrible people, I broke up with this girl because she cheated on me while I was fighting for our country. I wish I could ignore it but she keeps calling me. I want to be able to know if she can legally do anything to me.

let her take you to court, she can't win at all. the judge will probably laugh if they take it that far.

Let her take you to court. Her being 17 has no bearing on this case, because you two didn't sign a contract. If she sues you in Small Claims, then counter-sue for the cost of the computer replacement(you have receipts, right?). If it is equitable property then I'd let her waste her time and sue. If you've got your receipts then tell her to fvck off. I wouldn't worry about it. Even if she does sue you(which she more than likely won't) you've got a fairly decent rebuttal that no money should change hands. Obviously this sounds like a case of sour grapes.

I have the receipts for the power supply and keyboard but I didnt buy the exact same ones as replacements. should I just print out the costs of the two exact parts and then what I bought? The first couple of calls were fairly civilized on my part but now we are just fighting between each other so I wont be picking up the phone.

Sure, she could sue you for 90 bucks.

....And the judge would probably make you pay, but that's besides the point.

BTW.. pics? ;)

Wait... Why did you have "her" ring in the first place?

LOL.. Are you saying that she gave you her ring to have while you were over there, you got back, found out she cheated on you, kicked her to the curb, and now she wants you to replace the ring?

Bwhahahahahaha.. If that's what happened, send her 90$ in monopoly money and tell them to fsck off.

Then get your number changed. :p

You could contend that the ring was a gift. ;)

Well she let me borrow it while i was there as something to remind me of her and I lost it somewhere. So these people have no case and I should just not pick up the calls? I also wrote a check at one time but didnt sign it and they are saying that since I had intent to pay and that I didnt sign then it is considered a bad check, is she telling the truth?

might sound stupid, but what is $100.00 worth to you in time and aggravation?

Her mom should be ashamed of herself and needs a good kick in the azz, but if she is really gonna take you to court, would it cost you more than the $100.00 for the ring in time and aggro? If you have the time and dont mind the legal hassles then judge judy it for sure. But if you want it to go away, give her $100.00 and tell her to choke on it. You are in the right here, no doubt, but in the end, what is your time and stress worth?

:)

WTF. Just pay the $90 and your troubles over. Yes, paying will suck, but it's a small price to pay for peace of mind.

No. Keep the receipts. Print out the comparable items and take the receipts if she does sue you.

Clarify what you mean about the check. Yes, I'd ignore the calls, or have the number blocked.

Well I see this as a good VS. evil sort of thing and I know it would be easier to pay the money but then evil would win. Its not the 90 bux its the fact that these people dont deserve anything from me or anyone.

If she insistes on this BS, tell her that since she was 17 at the time, the mother would be responsible for the destruction of the computer. So you're going to countersue her instead.

If you have to pay, make her work for it.... besides, you might end up winning.

I think he simply means that he wrote a check out, but didn't sign it. He told them about it, and they're saying that since he "had intent" to pay, and didn't sign the check.. it's a bad check.

Which I'm almost positive the answer is a big, huge fat NO. How can the check be "bad" if it isn't signed? It was never good in the first place. I mean, WTF? lol

Print up a piece of paper with wording that makes them acknowledge they broke the computer parts, and have her sign it. :D

They called one day while I was hammered and I wrote a check but didnt sign it. she says that this is considered a bad check. so they have an unsigned 90.10 check.

did you give it to them ?
why would you give them an unsigned check.

If they forge your signature, and cash it, file a complaint.

Ahh.

Well, regardless, i'm still positive it's not a bad check. It was never good in the first place.

And if they forge your signature and cash it, nail them.

Well you didn't endorse it, so who knows how it got into their hands ?

If they forge a sig and cash it, file a complaint with the bank and follow through :)

I don't think so. What is "intent to pay", anyway? I don't think it actually means anything, as far as the law goes.

So you started to fill out a check, and then they said something to piss you off or something, and you stopped. Who knows. I don't think it has any bearing on this "case", lol.
