start-ups are definitely a good way to get your foot in the door, though... that was how I translated my English Lit degree into a well-paying IT job. got a job with a firm on the ground floor when they were hiring pretty much anyone off the street that they thought they could teach/train and who'd be willing to work for peanuts and stock options (obviously not a programming position)

even if the company goes belly-up and never goes public, it's experience on your resume for the next job.

i work with a couple of developers who thought they would make it big with startups. each of them tried for 10-15 years but it didn't work out, so they ended up where i am at (secure job, great pension/401k/benefits/etc), and are just trying to end up in a decent retirement spot that way.

startups like kids that like to work. a lot. I don't see that OP and startup are a match.

But...

Based on personal traits, such as laziness, and some incompetence; OP should look for a gov't jobs.
Many pros:
- no overtime
- on gov't tit for lifetime
- competence and hard work not required
- no accountability
sounds like perfect job?

This thread reminds me that I need to hurry up and develop the "punch people through the internet" app, which will be given to posters in this thread, free of charge.

Did you mean a "Punch Trident in the froot loops" app?

Up to you which body part "froot loops" corresponds to

It's a friggin start-up retard. A start-up I worked at, I worked 39 weekends in a row but we eventually went public and I took two years off. The fact that you expect a tiny start-up to have a defined company culture is hilarious.

You consider everyone you interview annoying, boring, etc... and you know better. Except they can read you just like we can and you're the one without a job. Time to look in the mirror. Yeah, take that low paying job b/c you don't have the time to interview with all these companies that want to talk to you.

And this job, if you actually have one, is going to have you working long hours also.

Came in to say this exactly. Enjoy chronic self unemployment fruit loops.

Depends. I'd have to meet with the rest of the team. If I wasn't working with that guy much and everyone else seemed alright, then yeah. But, if I had to work with him a lot.... I don't think so. They were also really into overworking their engineers and they didn't have any defined company culture or values set. Which says to me that they don't value their future employees and are looking for high turnover.

It might be time to consider the remote possibility that the problem isn't with the company's you're interviewing with.

some of them i have seen pay very competitively for programmers

I doubt TridenT could be functional in any environment consisting of people with various personalities, traits, and mannerisms different from his own. His personality is far off the map from everyone else. This lessens the possibility of him getting any job. In the slim chance he actually gets a job, there's a high probability it's not going to last long.

At least this situation has an amusing outlet through these forums.

Asking for more generally doesn't hurt... you'll still be extended the previous offer. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

In honor of this thread and my colored posting history, I will eat a dick and post pictures if/when TridenT posts verifiable proof of employment.

I hear cow dong is rather chewy.

But since none of us know his real name, couldn't he just doctor something up??

So are we going to get an update later today after the deadline(assumed)TT gave for his demanded counteroffer? Or is TT still too wiped out from all those (3) interviews?
