Where the hell do you guys work that you actually have 8 hour days and not 9? (7-3. 8-4, etc). Man that'd be awesome; I don't need an entire hour for my freakin lunch.

My company allows us to work through lunch. It's a common exception if your job is able to be performed while eating.

most well ran companies don't make people stay for time they aren't working. if they do, it's just a sign of a poorly ran company.

My company doesn't allow it, and I could easily eat at my desk. Feels like a 9 hour day, not 8, because I don't have the option of working 8 straight if I wanted to.

Semi-cushy government job. Come in around 8:30am, leave around 5pm. Practically no overtime unless I choose to or just need some after hours maintenance (rare I can't just stop 'x' service for an hour or 2 here or there though). Course overtime isn't paid but it's comptime, so take it out of some other day.

every non-hourly position I've had, it's pretty much at the manager's discretion (and people are only asked to start taking unpaid lunch breaks if they're seen habitually abusing it)

def manager's discretion at my company, BUT you have to take a legally required clock-out 30 minute lunch.

You guys are missing the point of this thread, it's now Wednesday, just saying. Quit arguing about your works and get back to the nonsense.

Accurate.

Work starts here around 9:00AM-10:00PM and people leave between 5:00PM-6:00PM. Basically, you choose the 8 hours you want to be in between those times.

Btw, using a mac is very difficult for me right now. I'm used to shift+delete, pg down/up, and end/home keys. Gotta rearrange myself to this crazy shit. Also, I'm going to see if I can get a display or two. I'm really not a fan of coding and designing pages on a laptop.

8 exact hours at work, sorry but that does not sound too right. No lunch break? It surely is not included in your work hours unless you are hourly non-exempt employee.

I thought he already posted it:

There is a little coffee shop in Greenville, SC that I work at occasionally when visiting my parents. A regular actually has a iMac like that setup in his usual booth. He sits there all day, chats people up, and day trades. Made me laugh when I saw this pic.
