What's this thread all about? Someone give me a summary.

Cliffs:

Trident graduated college and was sure he'd be offered a programming job for 80k + even though his GPA sucked and his degree is in Math.
Trident hates Seattle where he went to school so drove across the country to find the perfect place to live since jobs are easy to get everywhere.
Trident hated every single city for one reason or another, but hated NYC and San Francisco a little less than the others.
Trident moved in with his friend in Phoenix, which is at the top of his most hated list of cities.
Trident watches a lot of youtube jobs about how to interview and find jobs.
Trident ignores all reasonable suggestions.
Trident is still unemployed after graduating in 2014.
Trident hates southwest lindy dancing because it's bullshit.
Trident refuses to even apply for any other jobs besides programming because something like an entry level helpdesk job would actually be worse than having no job.
Trident will only accept a job in San Fran or NYC.

Your off a little bit but not bad. There's clearly a lot more content in there and it doesn't even go over the details about my trip! This thread was started while I was still driving around the country. Also, you forgot to mention that I lived in Portland for a month.

The two in bold pretty much sum up every TridenT thread ever, right?

Poor Trident.

A BA/BS in math gets you what? Substitute teaching certificate? Isn't the PhD the working degree in math?

Only a BA/BS? You could probably get a government job as a lower level mathematician writing MatLab code. If you've minored in anything technical, it's a good way to get into that field. With a CS minor and a decent portfolio, it should be a good base for getting a software development job, but I haven't really tried that.

Like CS, it's a good degree to combine with some other skill unless you want to teach or be a pure mathematician.

trident, you should try applying to a software development consulting company

i worked for one such company and they would hire anyone who had 1) written code before and 2) was currently alive.

of course many people got fired after a week or two once they found out they were clueless, but hey, it's a foot in a door.
