I have always wanted to be on the show when I was younger but I was too young. Then when I was old enough they cancel the show!
The show is being resurrected and are looking for contestants. I sent them an email and hopefully I'll get an application form, get an interview and do the auditions.
I should do well. I'm fast, agile and strong. My main sport is Olympic lifting where I'm ranked 4 nationally. I have a Rugby, Gymnastics, athletics and rock climbing background. I move well and I'm a beast at rock climbing and rope climbing so the wall should be a no contest for me!
I'll bust out a few summersaults at the auditions if I go that far

11/02/08
The application is now online so I will fill that out
14/02/08
I have filled in the application form now. I have my fingers crossed for at least an interview
They didn't anything that I wasn't expecting. Well the BMI was not expected but that didn't matter. They asked for a full length pic in training gear and a head and shoulder pic.
Hopefully they will like that I came 2nd at the English Championships in 2007 and I'm ranked 3rd in the country will make my application form stand out.
They mention if I don't hear anything back from them by the end of April my application didn't make it.
27/02/08
I got the call today and have a place at the auditions on the 8th March 2008
. I can't wait to go on it
29/02/08 : Test from previous years
Tests from previous years from the gladiator forum
800m treadmill. 3min women or 2:30 men
You had to do this from a standing start, so the women needed to run at 17kph minimum and 21kph minimum for the guys.
2 min rest
Long Arm chin ups (on command): 5-6 sec pause between each chin with palms facing you.
Women 5 chin ups
Men 10 chin ups
1min rest
20ft hand ladder and 20ft rope climb to be completed in under 1 min
Women: hand ladder once & rope once
Men: hand ladder once & rope twice.
Duel:
15 sec defence
15 sec attack
30 sec head to head
I'll test the 800m and everything else tonight. I'm confident I can bash everything else out. I'm not sure where my 800m pace is.
8th March 2008: Audition day!
I was very pumped and excited. I just kept thinking "I must DOMINATE them all!", just something I feel when I go in to competition mode. I just think about destroying all of my competitors...haha
120 people or so turned up for the morning session, in 3 groups and I was in the 3rd group. Arrived at 9:30 and waited till about 3pm because we had to wait until the 1st and 2nd groups went in.
1, 5 and 10 points were given for achivements in time or distance depending on the event.
On this forum I went on people were seriously bitching about the producers taking a 'look' for contestants. These contestants felt they did 'well' but felt 'robbed' they didn't get through! I felt I did well and if I didn't get through it was obvious I wasn't good enough overall. I slipped up a few events marginally but most were cleanly done imo. I gave it everything and that was all I could do. People have a had time acceptig they weren't good enough.
We had a few beasts in our group. The bigger muscley guys did not worry me because generally they aren't that agile and the ones in my group weren't. They couldn't jump well either. The athletes that I expected would go through did. This 400m runner, ranked 6th in GB was a beast, 6'3, 14stones, 400m in 46.32s, 100m in 10.40s. This female triple jumper was nationally ranked and had skills. Her bf/ friend was also down, ex gb bobsled and track guy. Very sharp but didn't quite have enough agility.
I felt I did well overall but was it enough?
One of the producers asked about my the number that was assigned to me (1996) on my vest. I was thinking WOW will they pick me?!
5 names are called I am not one of them......BUT my number is called for the 6th and final place
BOOOOOOOOYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Words fail to express the euphoria of going through to the next phase.
The hall empties and the guys that didn't make it are out. We are taken upstairs and we each in turn have an interview (recorded). Just the basics blah blah, how did I get in to my sport? blah blah blah blah. They liked the fact that I came 2nd at the English Champs and my goal is the 2012 Olympic Games. I felt that I was confident and came across well. Interview for me are good.
I should hear back in 7 days or so if I make it to the 2nd round of auditions. They are more contact based and you get another interview. Then nearer the end you get another interview.
I'm in the last 200 out 6'000 applicants

PS me being called out last meant that I didn't score the worst out of the 4 guys, it was just how it was done apprently
10th March 2008 : Update : last 40 out of 6'000 applicants
Research team member called to say I'm in the last 40 now. They interviewed 200 guys that passed the fitness test and they liked my interview and have invited me back to the 2nd interview.
I have another round of fitness tests and an interview if I do well enough in the test
13th March 2008: 2nd round of auditions (last also)
40 guys arrived and they split us in to 4 teams roughly in order of weight. I was in the 2nd group.
We went to 'wardrobe' and had our measurements taken for our outfits for the show to be individually made so it would fit fine.
For the 'contact' aspect of this audition we had to:
1) wrestle so that we pick the other guy off the floor so no party of his body is touching the floor. We are in a small circle. No punching, kicking etc, just wrestling. 5 bouts. I won 3 and lost 2.
2) Pulling a stick. We'd pair up and hold tension and pull on the stick. You had to keep your arms straight and use your legs, you could not bend your arms: I won one and lost one
3) Rugby scrum 1v1. I won one and lost one. Hold a 1v1 scrum and push the other guy
We had to do an interview round where we were put on the spot and asked to say stuff about ourselves and how we'd beat the Gladiator mine went like this "Hi! My name is Koing and I'm 24 and I am software analyst. I Olympic weightlift and I will Jerk (do the Jerk motion) over my head!"
We had to do a drugs test with a person watching us doing a urine sample. Most of the guys were struggling but I had been p!sssing like a race horse so was more worried that my urine would be too diluted
or the ph was out of range but it has never happened before. This other guy from the earlier group had too diluted urine so he had to wait around to produce another sample. Another guy could not produce the minimum of 75ml. I had 3 drugs test last year for Olympic weightlifting so I am familar with it. It's standard stuff and I perform well under pressue (haha) and literally taking the p!ss. I filled 175ml and had to pause and use the toilet
. No issues here.
The tester said I had great urine , my body is performing greatly in regards to urine!
The production team said they would get back to next week with info, if we are one of the 16 contestants, 4 reserves or if we were not selected.
My thoughts: I did okay. There was another oriental guy and only one other guy wearing glasses
18 March 2008: Update:
This lovely lady called me and said she had good news for me.
I GOT MY SPOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in the last 16
I just can't believe it! It's going to be VERY exciting
. I just can't wait.

120 people or so turned up for the morning session, in 3 groups and I was in the 3rd group. Arrived at 9:30 and waited till about 3pm because we had to wait until the 1st and 2nd groups went in.
Everyone was put into groups of 5 or 6, and depending what group you were in depended what order you did your 8 events.
1: Shuttle Run. 20m x4. You sprint to the marker, touch the floor and back and repeat till you've done the 4 lengths.
-I thought I did well, I use to sprint and I hurdled last year, my pick up pace is good and my agility is sharp, so I can touch on the floor, turn fast and pick up speed again
2: Crab walk: Lie on your back then pick yourself up and walk with hands and feet, with your feet leading the way. About 20m down to the turn around point where there is a cone you have to get around without touching or you get a time penalty, then back to the start. Was timed.
-I think I got less then 20seconds and the best time of the group, not something I'd do usually! But I'm agile and was really fast, a lot of the bigger guys struggled due to probably lack of dips? I hammer out the dips religously on Tuesday.
3: Throwing: 3kg medicine ball for women, 5kg for the guys. Kneeling position and push from your chest. 2 attempts, best one counts.
-Not sure of max but definately 5points
4: mini assult course: forward flip over a hurdle and onto a mat, then 2 sets of 3 rebok steps, where you place feet, 1 foot, both feet, 1 foot x2, then under a hurdle, take this ball off it's stand, bounce 5 times and place back (or you get a time penalty), then jump 5 hurdles with both feet landing between each hurdle, before going under final hurdle and sprint for the line.
-People were doing a HUGE forward roll over the hurdle it was a joke, did they not realise it was a TIMED event? You want to minimise the time you spend in the air! I thought I did well, no penalty points incurred, not sure of time as they do not give you your times.
5: forward/reverse rolls: 2 runways. First one you do 3 sets of alternate rolls before switching runways to repeat, so it goes forward roll, backward roll, forward roll, backward roll, forward roll, backward roll, and repeat. This was timed.
-I was fast at this, probably max points? My Gymnastics background was rock solid here, people were complaining about being dizzy or losing balance but I was fine with it.
6: Overhead throw: 5kg ball (3kg for girls). Place ball between legs and throw back as far as you can. There are markers down the course to measure how far you threw. 2 attempts.
-max points, hit the wall on the other side, I do this rarely but all the power is from legs and hips, not the arms like a lot of the non athletes (they do this often) were doing!
7: Standing triple jump: Start on 1 foot where you have to hop and land on that foot, then push onto other foot, then leap for the line. 2 attempts again. My first attempt was a foul, but recovered on my final jump.
-2nd to max point or max point? No one in my group reached the first line, no explosive power
8: Crocodile crawl. Shoes off with your feet tied together. Assume press up position then drag body with arms only and toes draging along the floor. 25m girls. Guys have to turn around at end and return, so 40m total. This was brutal!
-first 20m I was tearing it down the runway! After the turn I was still hammering it down, slipped once, and the last 10m was tough but I did the best I could, not sure of time but I felt I did well
1, 5 and 10 points were given for achivements in time or distance depending on the event.
