Mill, your attitude is extremely stupid and makes you sound like a complete moron and a spoiled brat
YOU fvcked up, YOU have no respect for your teacher ... well, guess what he doesn't owe you anything

As for your SO hard highschool, give us a break.

Oh, and what about a "Just shut the fvck up and face the consequences of your actions" option in the poll ?

Yeah, he does owe me something. I'm the reason he has a job. I don't have respect for someone who doesn't respect me. You are correct about that. You call my attitude stupid, yet half of you don't even know how polite I was to him. I'm entitled to act like a d!ck if I want to especially since it was COMEDY you dimwit. I can't really say I'd do anything different the next time. I don't see how contacting your Prof everytime you have to miss is going to help. 7.5% and it sucks. I have to eat that, but that doesn't mean jackasses like you would have handled it any differently.

oh i see, that explains the "i'm better than you, fvck your opinions, only mines is important" attitude from you.

I bet you're also the person who, if gets caught for a speeding ticket, yells to the officer "HEY ASS! YOU BETTER NOT GIVE ME A TICKET B/C MY TAXES PAY YOUR SALARY!" or something of that nature.

wake up man, you are NOT the reason he has a job. The reason he has a job is because he has studied his way to become a professor through hard work (and not missing classes) and dedication. He has a job because of his skills and not because of some punk ass kid who thinks just b/c he forks over some $$ the whole system should revolved around his dense head. pshh..give me a break man.

Incredible assumption that is 100% wrong.

Do you realize how incredibly stupid that is? It's okay to skip something if you have a medical certificate, but on the other hand if you must appear before a judge in a court of law, that's not good enough?

Yes, but it's not Jury Duty. It was for speeding, he chose to go to court to fight it. He should just pay the g.dam ticket and go to class and man up to his mistakes. You are going to get reamed either way if the judge can't change the date, may as well let the teacher know wtf is up so you don't get the double sided dil...

It wasn't speeding, and I wasn't found guilty. I did man up and take care of my ticket issue, but I had to appear in court.

The reason why you had to go to court is and was irrellevant. WHat you must understand was that it was a planned absence.

In my case, I have a court date coming up for a traffic infraction, and I will inform my teachers of my absence at least a week ahead.

Incredible assumption that is 100% wrong.

For your own sake, I would refrain from both exhibiting and even comtemplating the vailidity of such a statement.

The fact is that the professor/grad student has gotten to where he is in life for reasons that do not concern you for the sake of this discussion. In fact, they should not concern you at all unless you are good friends. As for your inference concerning the goods and services that you believe you are entitled to, please be realistic. College is many times regarded as a proving ground for many students because of every reason that you have denounced. You are solely responsible for your acedemics which translates into a personal responsibility that is yours alone to bear if you so choose.

In this situation, you chose to proceed on your own.
You did not chose to put forth an excessive effort to inform the prof that you would not be there, and there was nothing inherently wrong with that.

Of course, circumstances shifted out of your favor for this day, and the once "exessive" effort that you could have put forth has now become a requirement that was unfufilled due to ignorance.

Now you undoubtedly know, from the multitude of responses, that notifying professors is a good, if not essential, method by which you can secure your educational achievements.

Stop defending the inane.

Everthing is arguable, but winning an argument only by exhausting the efforts of others is fruitless. If you were indeed genuine in your beliefs, I would think that you would attempt to convince us of the validity of your opinion. Instead you have continuously and exclusively refutted our opinions.

Refution should not equate exclusively with Persuasion.

Most professors would've given a re-take...this one didn't, that's just how it goes sometimes.

Though honestly Mill: I don't know you as a person, and I probably never will. But you come off as an ass in this thread. My opinion probably means little to you, just as yours means little to me; regardless, that's my standpoint.

Good luck with the class, and with getting the situation worked out.

Once again, stop attempting to rhetorizing the inane.

"any sane person...." might apply in some situation but not in this one. It is a noticable trait of maturity that would drive someone to ntofy their teachers of an absence. This is a trait that provides fault-tolerance and redunancy in everyday life.

You can refute my points all you want, but in the end, you are still fvcked in life for the same reason as it seems that you have not learned a valuable lesson.

Oh, and calling responsible individuals jackasses only shows how ignrant and mature you really are. I tried being civilized in that I refrained from critiquing your attitude as muc has possible, but I feel it is important that I do .

As is common in generally mosthighschools in US, bullsh!tting is tolerated. Teachers will aceept it. Administrators will not condone it. Parenst will eat it up.

College is not highschool. Bullsh!tting frequents the hallways, but in college, no one cares. In this case, you should have prempted any doubt they could have had concerning this situation. And no, it does not matter if you had to go to court. By all means will they disect the situation as to find a valid reason as to why you could have conveniently failed to mention your absence. Why?

Because everything you tell them is bullsh!t until they verify it.

Learn it.
Repeat it.
And stop being such an ignorant college student trapped in a fvcking highschoolers body.

Oh, and before you start agin with bullsh!tting, I must inform you that I failed out of a large university because I once approached life as you seem to now. I recovered and am doing quite decently right now, but I learned enough to overcome my ignorance. Oh, I don't know anything about you? Then why are you posting? Why are you even here, knowing that people will castigate you for such an obvious shortcoming on your part?

phew.....I need to go get a sandwhich

don't you love those that make a rant thread and it backfires on them and then the OP gets all super ultra defensive and pissed off at everyone and won't listen to them. But when one person comes along and even just half agrees with him (Mill in this case), he's all like "FINALLY, SOMEONE GETS IT". What a tard.

this thread is awesome btw.

I didn't read the whole thread so maybe you can answer for me. Did you email/phone the professor telling him about this before hand? I saw that you tried to call and couldn't get through. Did you call the department and inform them to give a note to the prof? If you didn't, then unfortunately you're at fault. If you did, fsck him and take it to the dean.

No I didn't do anything other than attempt to call.

I didn't read the entire thread, but I didn't see anywhere where Mill says he informed the teacher that he would be absent from class. I would NEVER expect a teacher to make up a pop quiz for an unexcused absence. It sounds like Mill is just facing the consequences of 1) breaking the law and 2) skipping class.

It's only 7.5%. Besides, college is so "easy". Just ace the other 92.5% and you'll get an A.

Personally, I respect professors and don't think that just because I pay tuition, I'm god. If a student could make up a pop quiz whenever he wanted, it wouldn't be called a pop quiz. The whole point of a pop quiz is to gauge where the students are at in the class, with no preparation (i.e. cramming). Anyways, in my experience American society in general neither respects education nor educators. You're the perfect example of this. No wonder the rest of the world hates us.

I hope my comments weren't too ballsy for you, considering I'm a junior member and all.
