IT'S vs ITS is the most egregious grammatical error on AT at the moment.

Of all of them, this is the worst.

IT'S is a contraction of IT IS or IT HAS. "That car is ugly. Look at its wing." is correct, whereas "Look at it's wing." is akin to "Look at it has wing." or "Look at it is wing.". I realize this one can be confusing, especially since possession normally dictates an apostrophe-s, as in "John's car is ugly.", but let's all try a little harder. Thanks!

I would say the improper usage of "Your" in place of "You 're" is more frequent.

IT has no possession. Example: "The Maxima is slow. Its engine has 4 cylinders."
IT'S is a contraction of IT and IS. Example: "The Maxima is slow. But it's skoorbies favorite car."

The attitude that "it's no big deal" is probably why young people have such piss-poor communications skills. People claim they're just being "lazy" because it's just a message board, but it carries over into professional communication as well.
:) As always, there are times when the informality is understandable, like when not bothering to press shift or things of that nature, but if you're putting an EXTRA apostrophe in you simply don't know any better. Dito on your vs you're. I've seen such grammatical errors in corporate emails myself, and my initial impression is that anybody else reading it is probably thinking "Hey, this guy isn't presenting himself very well.".

You're too worried about it's frequency of misuse. For all intensive purposes, I could care less. Their are plenty of other people who could of posted a rant.

For god's sake, read those to yourselves, and think "what the hell does 'should of done this' mean???"

How about "should have done this"?

Should have....hmm, should've maybe, and not should of?????

Interesting article.
"The more electronic and global we get, the less important the spoken word has become, and in e-mail clarity is critical," said Sean Phillips, recruitment director at another Silicon Valley corporation, Applera , a supplier of equipment for life science research, where most employees have advanced degrees. "Considering how highly educated our people are, many can't write clearly in their day-to-day work."
I have a much easier time expressing myself clearly in writing (typing, actually, writing makes my hands cramp up quickly) than I do verbally. My backspace key gets heavy use, and the end result comes out looking great. Unfortunately, there is no good verbal backspace key, so I sometimes wind up spitting out several words of incoherent verbage, until I just pause, think it all over, and finally make something that sounds like real English.
I generally have a whole thought, or conflicting thoughts, in my head, and then I'll try to mesh words - you think, "throw the ball" and "toss the ball" at the same time. It's the same thing, but different words. So it comes out "thr-, to-......t.h.r.o.w. the ball," stuttering on each attempt to say both "throw" and "toss". Kind of annoying sometimes, really.
The thought is present in 24-bit WAV format, but it gets sliced down to 24kbps 8-bit MP3 in the translation to words.
