BUT: I respect even the worst Trump supporters for their vote against corruption, career politicians etc. <- I do in fact think there is nothing wrong with that. It was clear that many in America are tired of this, and this is the logical result.

You cannot face 50% or more of Americans who are angry and give them a candidate like Clinton who INDEED represented all those negative things, corruption, Wallstreet etc. How should that work? There are plenty of wealthy Ds that would have swallowed a bitter pill and gone to R to preserve wealth rather than going Bernie. He'd lose the I vote far worse than H did.

For every wealthy D you speak of there is at least one person put off by Clinton who would've responded to Senator Sanders message. polls showing Sanders beating Trump by double digits at times (especially later in the primaries before he conceded to Clinton) in hypothetical matchups bear that out.
