People with lower income can negotiate as well. Hospitals will allow you to set up payment plans and if you just attempt to make even a $10 payment every month they won't turn you over to collections.

Or we could pay half as much and still get the same care with no headaches. You keep ignoring the fact that you could be paying less for better healthcare. It's like arguing that we don't need vaccines because sometimes we can just treat the symptoms.

In my opinion I believe a change in the system would degrade the quality of service. Not to mention the transferring most of your assets to Medicare when you reach the end of life.

That's great but most people can't afford them. Great for rich people though. Also, assuming we have 4 of the best 5 as you claim, that doesn't mean it's because we pay more than double per capita for care. That other hospital shows you can make top five without overpaying.

Clearly we have different views on the subject. One thing is certain though, we will never have free/cheap quality healthcare for the total population of the United States. Just the hard reality of life 🤷‍♂️

Yup, one of us doesn't have a problem with people who can't afford ambulances even though they have insurance or people having to choose between food or healthcare because they can't afford both, and the other one is me.

Well, just for my own curiosity. Besides saying, how all other countries have done it? How do we accomplish of reform in healthcare here? All you people wanna do is argue, but I don't see any real solutions.

Medicare For All is one proposal on the table to reform our healthcare, so yeah there are solutions, not just complaints.

Our local (large, university system) hospital will automatically lower your bill by like 20% if you simply call in when you receive the bill and pay then.

You are disengenious. How about removing profit as the primary focus of health care. How about universal health care with increased taxes with the rich going back to paying an actual fair share. How bout setting up a Cadillac level private health care on top of public health care in which insurance companies cans compete.

How about enforcing that drug prices in America must match within a percentage what is charged in other nations.

I've talked to the financial department of multiple hospital systems in multiple states and have not received such a gracious offer. That's also not quite the same as "as long as you pay $10/mo they won't send you to collections".
