I usually negotiate with the hospital for a cash deal to cover my deductible. You would be surprised what you can get if you talk nice to people.

Works for people with enough money to negotiate, but poor people can get fucked, right? That's on top of the amount you already pay via your employer and your paycheck, which is more than we'd all pay if we did it through taxes, and we wouldn't have to negotiate anything or pay extra.
