Only 4-5% compared to a current Phenom

GODAMNIT, how often do I have to repeat myself? It's 7,2% on total average, while the average in Games is 10%. You can be sure that the increase will be even greater in games like World in Conflict or Source Engine games because they like big caches very much and in those cases the 6mb L3 of Deneb will help alot.

If you're going by the Hardspell preview, its actually around ~8% faster in games (including the 3DMV CPU test)... not sure where you got the 10% figure from. Even excluding 3DMV its under 9%, I guess you don't like it when people round down numbers but you have no problems going the other way yourself... ;)

Prices just keep going down. Today Fry's has the tri core 8450 with ecs board for only $109. They had the e7200 with board for $99.99 yesterday.

Not bad..! I paid $230 for my 9850 in April or May.

Now that you say it, Hardspell.com already have tested a Deneb ES, which show that it is on average 10% faster than Agena and consumes half the power at the same clock and voltage under load. We also know that AMD will release a 3,0 GHz model. So we have a 10% increase through architectural improvements plus another 15% through the clock increase compared to the 9950 at the moment. That makes for a healthy total increase in speed of 25%. Now I wouldn't call that 'disappointing'. Of course the performance crown will still belong to Intel, but hey, that is not where the big profits are made, but the mainstream is and there AMD will be even more competitive than they are now.

The top of the line is EXACTLY where the profits are made (also including the server ships). Mainstream may sell numbers, but low profits. AMD already knows how"profitable" selling $90-$150 chips are....that is why they are bleeding red.

According to that, they are going to be AM3. Do you know if the non-FX Deneb chips will be AM2+ or AM3? I would like to drop one into a 780G or 790GX MATX mobo.

According to XBitLabs, those rumors about half of the power consumption for 45nm Deneb are false!

"Surprisingly, but the 45nm process technology will not allow AMD to reduce power consumption of its quad-core AMD Phenom X4 process considerably and the new chips are projected to have 125W thermal design power (TDP), inline with today?s higher-end Phenom X4 chips. "

Well it probably stands to reason to suspect any and all power-consumption speculation to date as complete hog-wash...but if you believe the rumors then they don't necessarily contradict themselves thus far.

Remember the "50% less power consumption" datum point came from a 2.3GHz Deneb sample.

Take a modern 45nm Yorkfield processor at 3GHz and underclock it to 2.3GHz and undervolt it so it remains stable even still and suddenly you'll see a 50% power reduction as well. It would be pointless to make hay over the fact that the chip uses 50% more power when clocked up to 3GHz. That's just the way it works, no mystery there.

But to digress, I doubt even the 2.3GHz datum point is worth a dam. I also believe anything FUD has to say about AMD and Deneb isn't worth a dam either. Too much BS on the net these days about everything in this industry. When a solid reviews rolls out of Anand then I'll waste the time reading it and committing it to memory.
