#1 Your caloric intake is too low for your weight. You're officially in starvation mode. Watch out for your metabolism because it's now shot and once you stop dieting your just going to balloon back.

#2. Are you trying to lose weight only or do you mean body fat? Because it seems you've lost a bit of both + some water weight. Have you measured your lean body mass versus the body fat that you have lately?

You may want to include some information about your nutrition, even though it's 1800 calories, it may be 1800 calories of some harmful processed stuff that would not make your body any healthier.

If anything, make sure all your additional calories come in the form of protein. That'll take you out of starvation mode.

1800 is the lowest recommended calorie intake for an adult male, so yeah it's a bit low. I myself am losing weight right now (going from 230 to 180, currently at 218) and I eat 2200 a day. That keeps me satiated (if I spread the food out over the whole day) and keeps me at a high energy level, so I can always blast my workouts with full intensity (and my body can recover relatively quickly). That said, Chrono, the tone of your post is a bit out of line. This forum is for sharing information, not making fun or calling people idiots because they don't know all the nutrition info you do. The whole purpose of this forum is to learn and share.

Actually, Cyraxx had a point, but the information was incorrect. Lifting isn't where you lose weight, but it does help you counteract lost muscle. A lot of people will state that lifting helps you lose weight because as muscle mass increases your body will burn more. But the fact is that if you gain any significant muscle, you will need more food and energy just to stay active, and because of this you will most likely continually break even. Even if you do end up burning some fat due to increased muscle mass, it is a slow burn and won't be noticeable for a very long time.

It's good that you are focusing on running as the benefits are huge, but hopefully you are dedicating a day to stretching still and maybe soon in the future you will incorporate some sort of lifting schedule. I've learned the hard way that you need all of these pieces before you are on the right path. Gotta start somewhere, right? Just don't get too caught up in your starting point and forget to progress to something more whole.

I don't think I called anybody an idiot in my post. I'm just rather blunt in pointing out what he's doing wrong. I don't think I'm out of line at all. What's the purpose of losing weight when a lot of it will be lean body mass?

Good job on the weight loss. I won't offer many suggestions because I am not knowledgeable enough to do so. In my experience I lost almost 30 pounds simply by cutting pop from my diet.

That said, this is an internet forum, some people will be very diplomatic, but most won't. However most people are trying to help you so I suggest growing some thicker skin.

Good luck with the weight loss.

I tell you what I need, and that is one more person telling me to start back on the weights! Reading comprehension doesn't seem to be a honed skill by some of you I can see.

BTW, thanks for the encouragement from those of you who mean it! It helps tremendously!

I wouldn't say that much. 2500 is almost close to maintence. I'd say take in about 2200. 1700-1800 is a bit low, so maybe 2000-2200? If you're not having much trouble with hunger, then do what you do, but it'd still be a bit healthier to be slightly about 2k.

Nope, not hungry. Eating smaller amounts every few hours keeps me from feeling hungry. That along with plenty of water controls my hunger just fine. The only time I feel a tad hungry is when I wake up, but I eat immediately.

Well, keep in mind that you are hovering around the amount of calories that puts your body into a sort of starvation mode, which kills your metabolism, royally screwing all you've done.

Also, about the weights: don't be an ass. Seriously. We're trying to help show you the way of what works and has worked for years upon years. If you want to lose all your fat and muscle together, be my guest, but don't be a jackass when people are taking time out of their day to help your quest. I was polite and persuading and there was no reason you should've come out like that. If you ask for advice, you're gonna get good, factual advice from me, whether you're determined enough to wholeheartedly be involved in your efforts or not. So really, just don't. You expect some sort of respect, as do I.

Dude. I applaud you for taking the initiative to lose weight. It's very difficult at first because most people do not have the mindset to change their lifestyle. I know I came off as sounding like a jerk so I apologize for that. However, I do recommend doing more research and reading articles/forums/personal experiences of other people and seeing what worked for them so that you may incorporate it in your life. If something doesn't work and you're not seeing results, merely adjust and recalculate and see if other changes may affect the rate that you're seeing weight loss. Keep in mind that fat loss is key and not weight loss itself. At a minimal, I recommend taking a good multi-vitamin. On a side note, did you know that gaining muscle mass is difficult? The only way would be to have a surplus in calories above your BMR in protein, otherwise you will have very minimal results. Do remember this though, that the more muscle mass you have, the higher your BMR will be and the more defined looking you'll be. I'm sure you know this.
