His arrogance continued with his willfully clinging to the focus of power with this position, even when it became
increasingly clear that he was disafectiong his own party members and cheating his constituents.

Party members feared his abuse of that power even this long becore risking a coup of authourity as well.
The whole machine has circled the wagons trying to protect the head of the snake.
Frist and Hastert must go as well, as they have gone waty out of bounds to justify the continuance of DeLay's power trip.

The presumption of innocence on this forum tends to rapidly disappear when it comes to discussing certain Republican politicians. Delay will be back in action and reinstated, and the Democrats will start crying again.

After all, when Delay is concerned, U Can't Touch This!

In a separate letter to Speaker Dennis Hastert, DeLay said he intends to seek re-election to his House seat in November
The man is delusional. It appears unlikely he will be relected if polls are to be believed. Does that mean the end of his political career? If so good riddance.

Pat Bucahanan confirmed that today in an interview (CNN or MSNBC) that part of his plea bargain
was to wear a wire and talk to the GOP Party Leadership about what action he was to take in dealing with his indictment.
Don't think he would blow his cover and tip them off that the was in 'Stealth Mode' - there must be some very nervous
GOP Party Team Leadership members today, trying to remember what they might have said and discussed.
Potentially very incriminating subject of discussions -
happy felony, everyone.

Well, since the Dukester wore a wire, I bet Duncan Hunter would be 4. Then, it's a mad race for Republicans to fill out the rest.

Here's the Time Magazine article on Cunningham being wired:

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1146700,00.html
Washington's power players have always bragged about being well-wired, but for disgraced former congressman Duke Cunningham, "wired" wasn't just a figure of speech. In a week when legislators are focused on the question of who else might be brought down by ex-lobbyist Jack Abramoff?s cooperation with prosecutors as he seeks lenient sentencing over his two federal guilty pleas this week, sources tell TIME that in a separate investigation, ex-Rep. Cunningham wore a wire to help investigators gather evidence against others just before copping his own plea.

Sources familiar with the situation say Cunningham, a California Republican who pleaded guilty Nov. 28 to taking $2.4 million in bribes?including a yacht, a Rolls Royce and a 19th-century Louis-Philippe commode?from a defense contractor, wore a wire at some point during the short interval between the moment he began cooperating with the feds and the announcement of his guilty plea on Nov. 28.

The identity of those with whom the San Diego congressman met while wearing the wire remains unclear, and is the source of furious?and nervous?speculation by congressional Republicans. A Cunningham lawyer, K. Lee Blalack, refused to confirm or deny the story, and wouldn't say whether Cunningham will implicate any other members of Congress. The FBI is believed to be continuing its probe of defense contractors involved in the Cunningham case. An FBI spokesman declined comment. Asked whether Cunningham, an ace Navy fighter pilot decorated for his service in Vietnam, had worn a wire, the spokesman said the response from a higher-up was, "Like I'd tell you."

There's gotta be a lot of puckered sphincters in the GOP right now!

This gets my nomination for Understatement of the Year. Wow! Puckered indeed.

Don't think he would blow his cover and tip them off that the was in 'Stealth Mode' -

i give this one an even bet- because the choice to betray or tip his pals off can only be made by cunningham and him alone. i really, really wouldn't want to be him right now.

harder yet would be for him to act normally knowing he was ratting his associates out and
it would take very little for him to tip off his cohorts that he was bugged.
without video, (i'm assuming that) it would be harder still to detect him letting his friends know he was hot.

and who knows how many levels of personal agendas, treachery and obfuscation is being played out and how that could affect the outcome the investigation when the stakes are so high.

movie deal to follow eh?

What is the point in Political Corruption that it crosses from the realm of being greedy and self-indulgent
to that of being Treason against the Interests of the Country ?

Money being funnelled to an organization to take the collective power of the voters and placing it under the control
of special interest groups for the benefit of those Polititians involved in conspiracy with those groups should be.

Aparently this web of deception and extortion enen extends to foriegn countries who were able to purchase their official position.
This came with it's own benefits and rewards as well.

I find it fascinating that a person can quit a leadership post that by House rules he wasn't able to hold anyway.
From that article-

During my time in Congress, I have always acted in an ethical manner within the rules of our body and the laws of our land," the Texas lawmaker told fellow Republicans in a letter informing them of his decision.
I did not have sexual relations with that woman 😉

The 58-year-old DeLay, an exterminator before his election to Congress in 1984,
A cockroach killing cockroaches, maybe they can add a murder rap to this?

We must always remember that Delay is not the desease of corruption but just a very visable poster boy
manifistation that the desease is far advanced. Hopefully Delay will get the jail time he has so richly earned----the danger is that Delay will become the scapegoat for the larger problem of influence peddling-----with everyone pointing and saying now that Delay is in jail the problem is solved.

The only thing that is certain here, is that for a time, corruption will simply be more careful about being visible.
And the pragmatically careful will always outlast the arrogant stupid.
