Its bigger than Hip-Hop... Hip-Hop

Its been a while since we've had a hip-hop related thread and methinks its about time for another ;).

Those of you that like rap, sign in! Genocide, KidV, among a couple others. Get yer butts in here. :p

I heard Talib Kwali is working on a new joint that should be out soon. Is that true? If so, does anybody care to elaborate? Also when are the Alkoholics (or the rest of the Likwit crew for that matter) going to release another album. I know Tash's CD came out mid last year, but I'm talking about a cut from the entire group. Its been since '97 for crying out loud!

Whose your favorite rapper? And if you don't care for rap, whose your favorite singer/song writer, musician, etc.

(BTW, I did a search and Mark tried starting a rap thread about a month ago, but it didn't go to well so I think the topic deserves another chance)

KB - Reflection Eternal is already out (Talib Kweli + DJ Hi Tek)...it's soo off the hook - I LOVE IT!!!!
Also, if you haven't gotten a chance to hear it (it's not out yet so this may be possible), the Prodigy solo album is nice. I heard the whole thing and I'm not sure when it'll be out, but trust me: it's tight.

As for my favorite MC...I'd say Canibus has to be my man, but if I had to say who the best would be, it'd have to be Pac hands down (favorites and best are 2 things in my book :))

Windogg: JayZ could be incredibly talented if he actually tried to be creative with his lyrics. He's shown some originality in the past and his beats are still very good.

If he didn't sell out to mainstream so completely, he'd be quite good.

genocide: Hmm... Didn't know that. =/ Perhaps I should check it out. :)

I'd have to say my favorite is probably Mos Def or Black Eyed Peas (<- I just love their sound. Nothing like it).

It took a little while for Reflection Eternal to 'grow' on me. I like it.

The Roots are still my favorite; Outkast has to be in second place (Stankonia is worth a listen - somewhat experimental compared to their earlier albums).

Mos Def is definitly one of my favorites. I've listened to his CD so many times I've damn near memorized it. He's incredibly smart and talented, he's got a great career ahead of him

Wu tang is #1, they have been since Shaolin emerged and dropped the first 36 chambers on us and they will be until the day the clan dies. I'm really glad they finally god Cappadone the hell out of there too, he is extremely annoying.

solo wise, it's a tough call between 2Pac, Jigga Man, and BIG for the all time title.

old school wise, LL was great in his prime and KRS ONE rocked the stage with some seriously political rhymes.

these days, Roots, J5, and Outkast are keeping me happy.

I just wish Run DMC would come back around, they rule. are you down with the king???

Outkast's new joint, um golden? just like their first three albums, it's destined for greatness, just like that southernplayalistic duo.

well, enough from me for now, later ya'll

Impact - if you haven't gotten it, get Mos Def!!! It's not only lyrics, but he kicks a lot of knowledge too.

No disrespect to BIG, I love him. But I can't see how people can say he's the greatest of all time. Just because he died doesn't mean that he was the greatest. His lyrics were great, but that was about it. He wasn't revolutionary - but he was still great. Definitly not the best, especially when Nas was from the same city...

Don't get me wrong, he was unbelievable, but he's not the greatest ever in my book...

Black on Both sides - Mos Def
Lets Get Free - Dead Prez (these guys are the most racist people I've ever heard; they keep referring to white people as "crackahs" :p)
Raplife - Tash
Soundbombin' Part2 - Various (I completely and whole-heartedly recommend this CD. It has so many great artists, like the High and Mighty, Mos Def, Pharaoh Monch, Talib Kwali, Common, and many others. All the tracks are mixed by the Beat Junkies. If you haven't heard of them, then you are missing out)

Oh and Impact55, just do a search for him and pick any song. Just about all of them are good. My favorite is Miss Phat Booty.

Heh, I just heard that song the radio about 20 minutes ago. I had to take my brothers second set of keys to his car to work for him because the idiot locked his keys in the ignition.

To think I'm related to 'em

I like Hip-Hop...I admit, I don't stray far from the usual suspects (BIG, DMX, Jay-z until recently), but that doesn't mean I'm not open to others. IMHO, Jay-Z was good once, but now he's sold out, he's like a black, non-political Al Gore who openly pimps women. DMX seems to be going the same way, more about the money than the music. BIG...well, he's not going anywhere unless you believe the conspiracy theories.

That's about all I have time to say...I'll check back here later.
