Hmm...I just about pulled the trigger, but the code's expired. Now I'll have to see if I can resist next time. :)

When you go to pay you select to use your DPA, then it applies the discount.

just remember, opening up a DPA account will cause a hard inquiry to your credit history. which will temperary decrease your credit score. so if you are planning to get a mortgage or car loan anytime soon, better really think about it.

how long does the hard inquiry stay on your record before it returns to normal if you applied for the dpa? thanks

I used to do mortgages... the impact of a consumer credit inquiry should be minimal, a few points at best. The inquiry itself will show on your report for a long time (iirc, I think they show all inquiries for the past 24 mos.) but the list of inquiries really doesn't matter--it's the score, and your score will take a small hit anytime you apply for credit. It shoudn't affect you unless you're right on the line, say you've got a 621 and you apply for a conventional mortgage that requires a 620 score... then you might get screwed. And unfortunately for us the bureaus are not public about how the scores are calculated, all they provide are general guidelines. No one can tell you _exactly_ how any one event will impact your score, all you can really do is make educated guesses.

Oh, and those of you that want to find out your score: I'd recommend not ever paying the bureaus for it. They score they provide you when you request your own report is calculated diferently than the score they provide lenders and creditors. This is fairly well-documented. When I tried it myself before applying for a car loan a couple years ago, the score I "bought" from Transunion (the agency my credit union goes by) was a full 46 points lower than the score my credit union pulled. And I got the score myself only hours before walking in to the CU to discuss my loan. If you really want to know your score, ask to see the report a lender pulls when you apply for credit--that's the only way to know where it truly stands. And don't forget, there can be a great discrepancy between the three bureaus as well (Experian, Transunion, and Equifax.)

I picked up a 1905fp last week at the $317 price point. Shipped Friday afternoon, supposed to arrive Monday.

I would like to get in on this one with the DPA discount at $275.

How would you recommend dealing with the first one? Can I refuse the shipment and just have the DHL driver send it back? Or do I have to take posession, call for an RMA, and ship it back to them? I recall reading somewhere in these forums about people refusing shipment on items when they made a cheaper/different purchase, but I've never done that, and was unsure if it was acceptable or not. I don't want to screw anybody over (Dell, the shipper, whoever), but if that's a legit way of handling it, it would be far more expedient to handle it that way.

Thanks!

(Am I asking this in the wrong forum?)

The easiest way is to call the customer care center. Tell them you have a monitor on the way, and it dropped in price since you purchased it. Advise them that if they cannot credit you the difference you will be returning your monitor and reordering.

That would cost them more than the 35 dollars, and 99% of the time they will offer you the pricematch to keep you from returning it.

And this is why you don't get loans from institutions that rely strictly on a FICO. :p

Unfortunately, though, (afaik) even the non-score-driven products still check credit reports and the underwriters take the scores into consideration, though it may not be the primary criterion--the score can and will still help or hurt you. They never ignore it.

The only way it truly does not factor in is if you have absolutely _zero_ credit history. A good underwriter (ie, one who can think, and not just read scores) will accept 12-24 months of rental history and two other recurring bills/payments. As long as it's all paid on time, you'd have no trouble getting a conventional or FHA mortgage that way--but they need to be manually underwritten.

I am now using this monitor after getting in on the deal a couple days ago.
Man they sure do ship them out fast.
Best monitor I have ever had the pleasure of using.

It pivots for 90 degree viewing, which I kind of like for web browsing.

If your needing a monitor, this is the one to get.

Thanks OP.

I haven't played HL2 on mine, but the ghosting is horrible in UT. It especially has nasty ghosting with dark colors on light backgrounds. This is especially annoying in movies where you have a person with a light complexion and dark eyes. When they move quickly their eyes ghost/blur/shutter, however you want to describe it.

It's hard to take a picture of it, but here are a couple from the DM tutorial in UT:
No ghosting
Ghosting
Different ghosting - this is a light floor tile with black grout

Okay, I got in for $318.32 with free shipping and 6% MI sales tax (That was without the $60 coupon, the $35 in it's place).

Had to find Dell Preferred coupon...

Thanks OP!

I just messed my pants, I was wondering if I'd be able to do the 90 degree viewing and you just answered that for me. I currently have my Samsung 191T on a 90 degree and having two side by side will just be sick.

Can't wait!

At this price, this would be a nice monitor to hook up to a mac mini or something. I wouldn't use it for hardcore gaming though.

This is kinda late, but I second Delleet's opinion of 1905FP's (non)gaming capability. I had one for a couple of weeks, and shooter games are unplayable, so I bit the bullet and got a 2005FPW instead, and it was much, much better. UT, with its native widescreen support, is gorgeous on the 2005FPW, and I suspect HL2 (also natively widescreen) would look and play great on that as well. Although you'd probably need a good rig to power HL2 up to the 1600x1000 resolution, my GeForce 6800 was struggling to smoothly play Doom3 at 1024x768, if that's any indication (although I had 4x AA and 8x AF on, so maybe I need to tweak it a little).

So consider the 2005FPW, I'm pretty happy with mine!

Whats the point of getting a monitor with such a high native resolution if you can't run the games effectively at that resolution?

Don't base everything on 2 internet posters opinions... try it for yourself. Anandtech gave it great ratings for gaming, and every review including this monitor I have seen says it operates extremely well in gaming environments.

YMMV - the vast majority I have read say it's great for gaming. I will throw my own 2 cents in in 2 days when my two get here!

Strange, I didn't get any notice that my LCD shipped but when I went onto their site and checked the status it said it shipped today.

Oh well, at least its on its way!

To anyone thats already ordered and received theirs......
How many days did it take you to get it from when you ordered? Its saying I'll get mine on April 1st-5th and that seems like a long time.

I just received mine today. This is my first LCD. Here are my impressions.

1) I love the clarity this monitor offers in normal applications. Web surfing and spreadsheet stuff is definately much better.
2) I played HL2. I noticed a difference along the edges of my screen as I turned but realized very quickly that this was something I would have no problem adjusting to. I like to call it a little trade off. I knew beforehand that CRTs were superior to LCDs when it came to gaming so I knew to expect less visual appeal.
3) This thing is so much better looking on my desk than a CRT and my movies and TV look a lot better.

All in all it is better. I have a feeling that in a week or two I won't even notice the ghosting and if I do I can always send it back and get a 2005fpw. My problem is that I run a 9500 Pro so running games like HL2 at 16x12 is out of the question.
