Mine is exactly the same as yours. It should be a good overclocker, and I would expect we can do 2400 speeds easily.......I will let you guys know...:)

actually, unless there's been some new development that hasn't been mentioned on AT, the 2200's are kind of the end of the line for the old Thoroughbred "A" line. per this article, they aren't very good oc'ers ... :(

i'm still kind of hoping distinguished will get us all 2400's ... otherwise i might just ebay this sucker and buy a 2400 outright.

Well, that article may be true, but it was written on June 10th. These processors are week 36, the first week of September. Hopefully they will have made the transition to the new Thoroughbred B core. If not, there is always Ebay if they don't hit the speeds I am looking for...:)

Jmman,

How do we determine whether we have a thoroughbred "A" or "B" core?

Thanks.

I am trying to find out if these are indeed thoughbred "b" chips. The "B" variety of the 2200 was supposed to start on August 21st, and these were made the first week of September, so I think they very well might be "b" chips. I will let you guys know as soon as I can verify it...:)

I went to the Detroit event and came home empty handed.... there were soooo many people there.

On a side note, I was wondering if anyone who happened to catch one of those AMD bags was willing to sell it for @ 15-20$

I really wanted one, but being a short person and not too big, I did not wanna give up my life jumping after one with all those rabid people in the crowd.

If you are interested... just PM me or E-mail me at galperi1@msu.edu thanks

Guys-
If you can- sign up as a reseller- we had a nice buffet meal of Smoked Salmon, grilled scallops, stuffed mushrooms, etc. They took it out right before the main event started
Won a 2200 at the resellers bit- currently running at 2.0 ghz even (about a 2500+ IMO) so they aren't bad OC'ers

One note about St Louis- Ran into the geekest of them all- while the girls were throwing the T-shirts- commented to the guy next to me "If they wanted to please everyone in the crowd- they'd give us the shirts off they're backs!" His response floored me- "Yeah, they've got nice Tshirts!"

ok, so what'd you have to do to get that oc? did you play "connect the dots" with the contacts on the package and bump up the multiplier, or did you just crank up the fsb? and if you did it with fsb, what mobo are you running? i've got an ecs-k7s5a and while i love it, it's no oc'er!

To all the potential "Battle of the Boxes" competitors -

Can you spot the trend? At the DC event, a competitor loses because he did not check the power supply connection to the floppy drive and thus fried his PS. He shifted the connector over so only 3 of 4 pins were connected. St Louis - again a competitor loses because they failed to check the floppy drive power connection. This time it was due to a bent pin.

Hint: CHECK and DOUBLE CHECK the floppy power connection.

the "DKV" after the 2200 indicates that it's a "B" chip. the older "A" chips have "DLT" after the 2200. you should be able to oc that mofo like crazy. :D

Actually, the DKV does not designate that it is a rev. b chip. If you look at all of the reviews of the Thoroughbred 2200 they all say DKV. After testing this and doing a little checking, I do not believe that it is a rev. b. I also have not had great luck overclocking it either. Maybe you guys will have better luck than me. I cannot even get it to run over 2ghz without crashing in games.......:( I guess this is going in my secondary box, and I am going to have to buy a 2400.....;)

I'm running it in my Gigabyte GA-7vrx @ 150 fsb- had to bump all voltages up a notch- Running 58 C Aircooled (Huge aluminum Coolermaster- could do better if I used a better cooler) Think I'm at the pratical limit- may have to turn it down a notch- seeing some occasional errors.....

From what I could find, the OPN (Ordering Product Number) tells the tale?

AXDA2200DKV3C

The thoroughbred ?A? runs at 1.65V
The thoroughbred ?B? runs at 1.60V

The tenth character in the OPN indicates voltage
?K? = 1.65V = ?A? core
?U? = 1.60V = ?B? core

So, I believe what we have is a thoroughbred ?A? core

I'm fairly new at this so I may be wrong....

welll crap.... i got one of my two prcessors at the denver event.... hopefully my second one will come monday... (won one with the jeporady thing, and one with the ticket) I was dissatisfied because the AMD guy said it was going to be a 2400XP+ but i got a 2200XP+.
Not that im complaining, but when they tell you , that you are getting one thing, but then you get something worse, plus we had to wait for them to be maild to us.... I have to keep reminding my self that it was free, but i don't think that they should be falsely leading us on.
Maybe if we all sent in a email to that address on the certificate page, we can get different processors.... not likely, but i'm sending one to let them know that they need to get the facts straight

Remember, we (the enthusiasts) are very important to AMD Marketing. AMD is severely outclassed and outspent by Intel. AMD needs us to be behind them, spread the word, and influence buying decisions.

But, we have to make our voices heard. I encourage everyone who was disappointed by AMD?s fulfillment error to contact them and ask them to correct the situation. Our power is in our collective voice.

The smart move by AMD would be to exceed our expectations, not to disappoint and leave us feeling short-changed. The difference in cost to them is negligible. The marketing benefit of exceeding our expectations is immense. The damage caused by disappointing the influential enthusiast is severe.

AMD has catered to the enthusiast market and this has played a significant role in their success. Intel is catching on to the value of it and is beginning to go after this market as well. This is not a time for AMD to slip in its relationship with the enthusiasts. Rather, they need to solidify and expand this relationship as much as possible.

The 800 pound gorilla is at the door.

yeah, personally i think going from the 2400 to the 2200 is a major come down. and like dis' says, we as a group are very important to amd - we influence a lot of buying decisions AND if we're system builders (which many of us are) then we actually make a lot of buying decisions as well. almost seems to me like AMD is trying to unload the old, slow stuff on us (that they can't sell for much $ anyway) so they can sell the new fast stuff at a big fat profit. as for me, after comparing the 2200 to my 1800 i decided it's not worth the trouble - i'm going to e-gay the 2200 and wait 'til prices drop then snag me a 2400 (or better!) later on. anyway, what i'm really waiting for is a serial ata hd and the 333fsb before i make my next major system upgrade.

what's that email address, anyway?

comments at amdrealitycheck.com

Of course use a "@" instead of "at" - I changed it so the email addressing robots wouldn't pick it up and spam AMD. ;)

Do you think anyone in the AMD Marketing department reads these forums?

One question, how are the contestants choosen for battle of the boxes? Do they just randomly pick them from the crowd or by some other way?

Thanx

As I recall...

You fill out a short entry form and place in a box. They draw names from the box.
The entry form just asks for first name, last name, and email address, if I remember correctly.
I don't believe there was a limit of one entry per person but there might be.
I did not see people stuffing the box. There were pads of entry forms at the box.
If your name is called, you get to participate in jeopardy style game where AMD related questions are asked.
There are five contestants for each game and two games (different contestants)
The first person to get five correct answers wins the game and advances to the actual box-building contest.

Good luck. Do a little research on what questions are asked, review the MoBo manual and I think you will have a excellent chance of winning
