Email me if you are interested in sharing gas/hotel expense. Hotel.com lists the same price (about $50) for a room with two double beds as a room for one. Will probably burn through $40-50 in gasoline (Yes my truck guzzles gas) Approx. departure time 12:30 Thursday Nov. 14th from the Kansas City area, return Friday morning... I realize this is short notice... Will attend both the earlier event as well as the general admitance event. If you do not have access to the earlier event, you will have to loiter/hang out till the later event. Email if interested...
Whoa! For all that we could just buy a 2400+ and flip a coin for it ;) Much better odds and a lotta time saved :D Chiz
Regarding the suggestion to simply purchase and flip a coin:Where can you purchase a 2400+ for $100? And "Whats the fun in that?" My offer allows someone from the Kansas City area to attend an event they may otherwise be unable to attend. My primary reason for going to the AMD sponsered event is not "What can I get if I go..." but rather "This could be fun..." Many have posted that they have had a great time even though they came home with nothing but a fond memory. The way I figure it going out to dinner and a movie costs near $50 here in KC. If AMD sponsered this type of event in Kansas City, with great food, computer nerd entertainment, free prizes, etc. and donated the tickets proceeds to a local charity I would pay $50 to attend...

You are welcome to STL, as long as you don't win my processor..) See ya tomorrow..

did they confirm it was a 2400?

I neglected to ask. Sorry! I thought about that, and asking them to throw in a hat, right after hanging up. Too late! :) The call caught me by surprise and I just wasn?t thinking. I should have it in a few days and I?ll post what I get.

Now, I?m trying to decide on a motherboard, memory, case, video card, etc to go with it. This will be quite a step-up from my P200 with 64MB Ram!

It is curious that they are giving away different processor models at different cities. I don?t think they intend to indicate that they value customers in one city more than the next, but some may take it that way. They probably have an assortment to give out and they are sticking to the same speed within a city. The other solution (if they have an assortment) is to give out different speeds within the same event. That may cause much more contention and disappointment.

Of course, the best approach is to give everybody the same processor. I?m sure they have very good reasons why they are not able to do that. I?ll be very happy to get whatever I get.

We are all equal. Some are just more equal than others. ;)

I am so pumped for the Detroit event I can't wait. A group of my friends from work and family are going down together to have a great time.
From all the positive feedback reported in the forum I know AMD will put on a fantastic event!

I hope to see lots of my fellow Detroit AnandTechers there! Digital camera will be in hand!

Good luck everyone!!

See you at DCA Hanger # 1

Hey,
Not to dissapoint anyone but they may have to do something with the Seattle one. It says it starts at 8:30 PM on the 26th. According to the Unconvention Center website, Treasure Chests Rehearsal starts at 7:00 PM that night and ends at 10:00 PM...... :-/

Hey,
I guess there is two unconventional centers in Seattle... I think, that's a bit retarded. Can anyone that lives in the area confirm there is on on Harris St(I think that's what it said) and one on North Canal Street? Okay, what the crap, is there 3? I heard of one at 35th and Phinney too.....

Just got back from Detroit event. Very large turnout. All I got was a hat.:(

The questions for the battle of the boxes were just soooooo easy, but I'm sure most of us feel that way.;)

Maybe next year.

WOOHOO!!! just got back from the St. Louis event, first name called for Battle of the Boxes, won the 5-way battle, then up to the challenge.... built a box in 13:30...anyone there can tell you how much my hands were shaking....

ok, here's my Silver Place Story:
so I build the box, the other guy's still working, the announcer says "great, wait for the other guy and we'll turn on the boxes", so I sit there and clean up the wires, etc... and then the other guy turns his on, and then the announcer comes back and turns mine on...and the floppy drive errors on me...apparently one of the power pins were bent sideways, so when I plugged in the power molex, it fit fine, but wasn't really connected... and then the other guy gets into windows and wins a whole buncha money...sigh, I had hard feelings for about 10 minutes, then realized, 'waitaminute!!! I've got 500 bucks!!!!" so, TO: the guy who won: congrats! enjoy the moola! TO: everybody else: don't drink caffeine before trying to put togeter a comp....especially with cameras and 500 screaming AMDers yelling at you. :)

The Detroit event was not that good. I had more fun outside last year in the freezing rain.
It was hot and everyone was sleepy from the heat. A total of 57 Processors
were given out.

10 to the VIP's
10 to the Battle of the Box Contestants
37 to the rest.

Alot of people were there ..... but to alot it was a waste.

The battle of the boxes went good. Both guys had working systems.

Serious Sam was the bench
the guy that won had a
Athlon XP1800+
GeForce MX 440
128MB of RAM

Guy that lost

2000+
256MB of Ram
On Board Video
