How exactly does the processor giveaway work? How many did they give away?
And my biggest curiosity, how did the system building contest go? What sort of competition was it?

Details Details!!! :D
I went to the Raleigh one. I would say there were about 200-250, though I could be wrong.
The processor giveaway worked like this: Your ticket has three stubs on it with a term on it: performance, reliability, and AMD solutions. You put the stubs in the different boxes marked with its term. They draw from these throughout the night to give away the processors. The VIP event has a special drawing before they let the general public in.
There were 52 processors that they gave away. 10 were given away at the VIP event. 10 were given away to the contestants on battle of the boxes. The rest were given out to everyone there.
The battle of the boxes competition was alright. There was one guy that was obviously from [ H ]ard|forum(he had an [ H ] next to his name. One guy in the final got his computer to work, but failed to hook up one of the LEDs properly and the other guy did everything right, but it didn't boot. They were both given the grand prize.
There were plenty of free mints that you could take. After the first 30 minutes of the general admission event, they start giving away free stuff like t-shirts, hats, and bags. For most of the time they weren't able to get the shirts very far back in the crowd. I wasn't able to get a hat as I had hoped, but at least I did manage to get a t-shirt. Two people almost got in a fight over a shirt.
There was some free fruit for people to eat.
As already mentioned, Anand showed up and even gave away a processor.

Well, just got back from the Denver AMD giveaway and was a lucky contestant who didn't win to build the pc. But for being up there I got the bag, hat, shirt and a 2400+!! Nice for just showing up! Couldn't be happier :)

The questions weren't too bad, mostly what everyone is typing. I just wasn't quick enough on the draw. Basically, when you get up there, be sure you buzz as soon as you hear the main question. RIGHT AWAY. I could have answered more but wasn't thinking enough. No biggie because I got a free processor.

Feel free to ask questions.

I was at the Denver event earlier tonight and won the 5th processor that they gave away. Kind of sucked that FedEx messed up AMDs delivery and we couldn't get our processors tonight. They gave me a certificate and said that I would get it within a week.

Would have loved to have made the 10 person drawing for 'battle of the box', I think I could have had a shot! Certainly no complaints here though, I'm VERY HAPPY to have won a brand new XP2400+!!!

woot! just got back from the denver event myself, won a 2400+ in the first round of drawings, plus a t-shirt and hat. should have left then. didn't win another thing all night. (tho i did manage to get a few more tshirts from the amd reps from the kids. turns out i new the reps from when i worked for amd in austin 5 years ago!). def. wise to go early - no prob getting in & good free food & better chance of winning in the first drawing - they gave away a ton of cpu's and that box had the fewest number of tickets in it. sure wish i'd gotten picked for the b-o-b - who cares if you when the contest, it's a guaranteed cpu just for getting on stage! guess i can't complain too much, tho. free 1800+ and mobo last year at flat irons, free 2400+ this year. amd rocks!

(any suggestions for the right mobo for my new cpu?)

Yep, just got back from the Denver event myself with lots of swag!! Ended up with 3 polo's, 2 tshirts, a hat, and a couple of bags. Didn't get picked for the box contest either. I was actually pretty bored by the end of the night, but I am glad I stayed. I was the second to the last number called for a 2400+!!! WOOT!!!

So many people are winning CPU's! Im so excited, I cant wait, its like 25 days away! So for the box building contest when they take you up there, you have to answer questions, with a buzzer. Anyone want to be nice enough to recap some of the questions they did? Im currently assembling a bible that I have to study for the next two weeks. Man, I cant wait! This is gonna be like so cool! This is like going to Disney World for the first time! And Mickey Mouse wont be drunk! O wow! You wont believe how much I would like a T-shirt...

If you look through the this thread some people have already posted some of the questions. Definately learn those questions. I competed in the questions and I lost by 1 question. Take this advice. The moment you have heard the entire question ring in even if you don't know the answer immediately. I kept waiting until I had the answer in my head. Don't do that since there is no penelty for wrong answers. Ring in early and quick. Take a few seconds to think of the answer and respond.

sweet, I won two XP 2400 at the denver event. now i can get rid of my crappy PIII 1 Ghz.
First my name was called to play in the second Jepordary thing, where I won a nice bag, T-shirt, more mints, and a XP 2400
Then as they are doing the last drawing they called out my number for a XP 2400
Also my friend won a XP2400 too.
Then when we were driving home, a Ferrai 360 Modena was driving next to us and then took off like a bat outta helll.
Man it was a great night
I guess my two processors will be mailed to me in a week or so. I need to get some MOBO's and DDR ram.

Definitely ring the buzzer early!! I saw so many people just standing there and waiting. Another tip about the game is that once the first person misses the question, immediately give another answer. They give all of the other contestants an opportunity to answer the same question. You have nothing to lose by guessing. As far the questions, there were several questions on Hammer and also how much L2 their different processors have. Have fun.....:)

Once last thing I wanted to add about the box contest. They are using mainly video or FPS scores to determine the winner, so i would recommend getting the best video card possible, which in this case I believe is the Geforce ti4600...... Last night the other guy had more ram and a faster processor, but because of the ti4600 he won.

Anyone know how to sign up/get in the VIP party beforehand?
I work for a distributer of AMD products.. so I would qualify I guess, but how do I get in?
Is there a signup before hand or online...?

Thanks

Fedex evidently screwed up and didn't get the cpus shipped for this event. The Denver winners have to wait....:(

The Ti4600 would definetly help, I dont think anyone has answered this yet, but can you get 2 sticks of ram? I believe the last time I checked, that the performance offered by having 2 2100 pieces of memory in the 1 and 3 slots gave better performance than a single stick of the same amount of ram (pc2700) in any slot.

Oh yea, Ive finished my "bible" of information on AMD, its 16 pages long. If anyone wants it, Ill give it to them, either anyone who e-mails me or the first 25 people...dont got all the bandwith in the world. My E-mail

You can get multiple sticks of ram. One guy last night got 1 256mb stick of pc2700, and the other got 2 sticks of 128mb pc2100.
